Hi,
How do I disable the Epik Home Page and simply display my blog posts? I currently have that option set in the “Reading” section of settings, but it’s displaying the custom Epik home page.
Martin
That’s usually supposed to work when you change those settings, but if your home template uses the front-page.php it will show up as the front page regardless (thats how WordPress is setup). However, last time I checked the Epik theme still uses a home.php file name and not the front-page.php. So if you’re sure you set your homepage to show your blog and it’s still not showing, then you can remove all of your home widgets and it would automatically show your blog. Basically do the opposite of this tutorial – https://appfinite.com/tutorials/how-to-setup-the-home-and-blog-page/
Also, if you’re using the “Reading > Settings” option, make sure you’ve properly created a Page, titled it Blog and select the Blog template. Doing this and setting the front page to show this page has always worked for me.
Hey Kronos,
Thanks for the reply. I configured things as you suggested but I still get a blank page.

@martinmessier If you want, I can login to your site for you and take a quick look at what’s going if you’re interested. If so, just create a temporary user/password and I’ll check it out.
Hi Wes,
How do I send you a PM?

You can add it here, just make sure and check the box that says Private Reply.
@martinmessier Sorry if I missed it, but what’s the link to your site again?
Well I fixed part of another issue you were having. I looked at your editor and saw that your style.css file was corrupted. Everything was all mixed up and out of place and looked like this – http://i.imgur.com/nkpROiY.png
It’s actually supposed to look like this at the top – http://i.imgur.com/3ttYLJ6.png
Thats how all WordPress themes are setup so WP knows the name of the theme, the version, the framework it’s using (Genesis), etc.
Everything in your css file should look along these lines – http://i.imgur.com/AC6hVG3.png
So your entire css file was corrupted some kind of way. I fixed the top part of your stylesheet so it shows up in the correct order which means WP will be able to properly read and recognize it as a theme. So that fixed the issue you had since there was an error stating “Broken Theme” or “Template is missing”.
For the other issue, I’m still not sure what’s going on, but I would rather reupload the entire theme just in case you have other corrupted files. I didn’t do it because I wasn’t sure if you made changes to your theme in any way, since reuploading would override what was already there. So just let me know if you made changes or not, and if you didn’t then we can reupload with a fresh version and see if that fixes anything. I also noticed you’re using version 1.2, we’re at version 1.4 now.
The issue could also be another plugin but we’ll see.
Hey Wes,
Sorry it took me so long to get back to you on this.
I tested the obvious today. I added content to the home page widgets. Immediately, they showed up on the home page.
It seems that the only remaining issue with the site has to do with the home page Epik template. For whatever reason, I can’t disable it. Right now I just want the home page to display the latest blog posts — like the blog page.
Is there a way to shut it down in the functions.php file?
Hey Wes,
You might want to check out the version of Epik available for download at Studiopress. I downloaded it a few minutes ago, opened the style.css file in Notepad and it looks completely jumbled up, exactly like the first image you posted above.
When I open it in Dreamweaver, the layout looks fine.
Can you check it out and give me a holler so I know it’s not just a problem on my machine? Is it normal for it to look different on Notepad vs Dreamweaver?
MM
Since you said “notepad” I assume you’re referring to the default text editor in Windows right? I’m on a Mac and we have a different program that we use, so I can’t remember how notepad will display css. You may be right, I think the notepad program probably won’t display your css file in the same way as an actual CSS editing program would. If I were you I’d use a program that is actually designed for editing HTML/CSS so you’ll be able to see the line numbers and plenty of other useful features. Plus, it will help you avoid situations where the text will get all mixed up as mentioned above. A good editor will keep the format so you won’t have to worry about that happening.
When I had a PC back in the day I used a program called Notepad++ – http://download.cnet.com/Notepad/3000-2352_4-10327521.html it’s free and is a well known/used program for Windows. Definitely give that a try.
Are you familiar with FTP? You could use a program like Filezilla to edit your files directly. You would sync that up with an editing program and you can make changes to your theme files and it will automatically update your site. Also, if you make an error, you’ll be able to undo it and revert back…..this is something you won’t be able to do with the WordPress editor.
