Hi,
I purchased Elevate because I absolutely LOVE how clean and simple it is. However, I am really disappointed. I followed the quick setup guide directions step by step perfectly but everything is insanely buggy and won’t work for some reason.
I went to simply change the background image by clicking “Customize” and simply trying to change the background image using the dimensions they recommend.
Also, when I uploaded the dummy content it doesn’t look anything like the way the dummy website looks.
I need some big help here can I give someone my log-in information and can someone take a look?
Best,
Grant
This is the first time I’ve heard of something like this happening, can you provide a Temporary User/Password so I can login and see what the issue might be?
“Also, when I uploaded the dummy content it doesn’t look anything like the way the dummy website looks.”
If you’ve only uploaded the XML file that comes with the theme, that will only upload the Posts, Pages, Users, Media, and Comments. The default WordPress Importer doesn’t upload Widgets or Background Images. I usually have another plugin to handle the Demo Homepage Widget Content, but didn’t include one for the Elevate Theme since there were only 2 widget areas being used in the demo. If you want the exact Text/Code that I used you can access it from the Elevate Setup/Tutorial link above in the menu – https://appfinite.com/theme-setup/elevate-theme-setup/.
I can login to your site to make sure everything is working properly if you want. Everything is working on my end as you can see by looking at the demo which is a basic install of the Genesis Framework and the Elevate theme. If it’s not working on your site, then maybe there is something conflicting with it.
We’ll see, just let me know!
What’s the link to your site?
Hi Wes,
Any luck with it?
Best,
Grant
Hi Wes,
I was hoping we could get this taken care of today if you are available. I would really appreciate it I’m really trying to get this setup correctly I signed in and it’s still all over the place.
I downloaded an importer plugin and it still didn’t upload the dummy data correctly.

Ok looks like everything is working great. You were missing the TEXT widget as mentioned here in the Docs – https://appfinite.com/theme-setup/elevate-theme-setup/#fp1
Once you add that Text widget, it activates that Widget Area which shows the default background as well. If you select/upload your own Background image then it will show, as long as you have that widget activated. All of the homepage widget areas ONLY show if you have a widget in place. If not, then nothing will show in that particular area. This is great if you only want to use certain sections of the theme while preventing other unwanted sections from showing up.
So everything is working fine, you just needed to add a widget (in your case, a TEXT widget) to the widget area so it can activate and display your Widget Area and Background Image. Keep in mind, you can use any type of Widget you want in any of the widget areas.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Wow thanks man I really appreciate the support that is really helpful.
Thank you again!

Hi Wes,
One other thing, I’m confused as to why my blog page isn’t setup on the home page? That is the way it is setup on the theme example. So why is the “About Us” on my home page?
Also, when I go to Customize > Static Front Page > Front Page “Blog” or “News” it is showing full length posts, not a small paragraph with a picture like on the theme template. I’m confused here…
– Grant
It looks like you already got the blog setup on the homepage.
I went to Genesis Settings > Content Archives and set a 500 Character limit and checked the box that says “Include Featured Image”. You can change how many Characters show from this section, and you can also change the Image size if you want.
Let me know if that helps
Okay perfect thank you!
Also I am trying to edit the footer of the website. I have tried going to the genesis settings as well as the elevate theme settings but can’t seem to find where to edit the footer.
– Grant
Here’s how you can edit the footer – http://my.studiopress.com/snippets/footer/#custom-footer
This is how you would do it on any Genesis Child theme. If you don’t want to edit your files directly, they have a Simple Edits plugin where you can add the code there. Although I personally recommend editing files through FTP since it’s much easier to undo any mistakes.
Okay perfect thank you for that I appreciate it Wes!
In regards to the plugin “Genesis – eNews Extended” that comes with the theme, how can I integrate that with my aweber account? So when someone opts in on my front page how do I integrate it with my email provider aweber? Thanks!
– Grant
I’m not sure how to that, I’ve never used Aweber. If you do a google search for “sync aweber with genesis enews extended” some tutorials come up that should help.
