I had a hard time knowing exactly what the slider size should be. When I look in the plugin, it states that the image size is 920×400, but in the documentation, it states the slider should be 1140×400. What size should I make the homepage sliders?
Yes the default size the slider will start at is around 920px, but you’re supposed to change that to whatever size you’re theme is….or whatever size you prefer. In this case you can set it at 1140px width since that is the size of the theme. Your height can be whatever you want, I just use 400px for the demo.
Also, make sure you have the slider in the right widget area. There are two slider areas, the first one “Slider Wide” is the full width section. If you’re adding a width then you need to add it to the “Slider” widget area so it will show up aligned in the middle of the theme.
Ok, so something is not working right for me. I uploaded an image that was 1200×400. When its in the slider wide version, the sides are getting cut off (https://www.dropbox.com/s/6n03mmrxg1e4r4n/Screenshot%202014-07-28%2011.02.50.png) but when I upload the same image in the slider widget, the image is cropped and too small (https://www.dropbox.com/s/pcpq89ho9wpcycj/Screenshot%202014-07-28%2011.03.56.png). How can I just get the normal image. It should look like this when completed (https://www.dropbox.com/s/kj9yyfbckdo7yx0/example.png). Thanks!
StudioPress recommends using the Regenerate Thumbnails plugin – https://wordpress.org/plugins/regenerate-thumbnails/ for the Genesis Slider whenever you change the size of your images in the Genesis Slider Settings…..I use it myself for the slider as well as any other part of my site that deals with Image Thumbnails.
So pick the size you want first, and then run the Regenerate Thumbnails plugin and it will automatically adjust your images to the size you have specified in your settings.
If that doesn’t work (it should) I can login for you and figure out exactly what’s going on. If you want me to do that, then you can create a temporary user/password and I can take a quick look.
Let me know if this works.
I installed the regenerate thumbnails plugin and tried a few different options. I still cant seem to get the image to fit in. I have both a 1140×400 and 900×400 image. The 900×400 image seems to fit ok when I put it in the Slider area, but it seems to be aligned left, which looks odd. Would it matter if I’m uploading the slider on a Page and not a Post?
If you can send me your email, I’ll create and send you access to the site. I’m really stumped on how to resolve this and appreciate the help.

To create an account you can just make up any email/name when you add it in and it will still work (example – test@test.com ). All I would need is the login info. So once you create that, you can send me the info here in a private message and only I will be able to see it….or you can send it to our contact form. Whichever one you’re comfortable with.
You got it. Sending over information now in the contact form.

The only thing I had to do was go to your Featured Image on the slider post and choose the larger sized image that you uploaded……and that was it, it looks just like what you wanted now in the example you posted earlier. I also changed the Slider Settings to 1140px width instead of 900px since the theme width is 1140px.
In the future, when you upload a featured image in WordPress, make sure it’s uploaded at it’s full size (Large). The featured image you were using was around 900px, which may have been a scaled down version of the original image size. This could have happened because you had the slider settings set to 900px which means WP may have scaled the image to that size so it would show up properly.
Since images inside of this particular slider (Genesis Responsive Slider) don’t center, they will float to either the left or the right (images in this slider don’t float to the center). So the way we can make this slider appear centered is by adding them inside of a defined width (1140px as an example) and since the widget area of the theme is already centered it will make the slider appear centered. Does that make sense?
Let me know if this was helpful, and if you have any questions.
I’m glad you were able to get it to work. The image looks perfect. Its still odd to me because I tried exactly what you said you did (1140×400 image as featured image) but the image was cropped off on the left and right sides. Either way, I’m just glad its working now and will continue to update the slide as you did.
I really appreciate all your help. I understood your explanation of the centered image. Thanks!
You’re Welcome!
Glad I could help!
