I haven’t seen that happen before. The reason the white space is showing up is because you added height: 500px;, so you can remove that from your css since it won’t be needed. Have you tried any other images to test with?
If we can’t figure it out here I can login to your site (as a temporary user) and see if I can take a quick look to see what it could be.
