      Hi Wes,

Sorry about posting in the other related thread. Here’s my situation.

My site is currently offline (Behind a “Coming Soon Plugin”) so I can’t share the URL here but I can via email, PM, etc. Happy to send screenshots or whatever’s needed. Last night I installed Genesis 2, then Legacy 1.3, then deactivated unrelated plugins (other than Yoast SEO and a Security plugin which aren’t relevant to how home pages render). Lastly I installed the slider per the instructions and everything went well to that point. No other Genesis stuff was installed.

To begin seeing the slider, I went to the Widgets area and dragged the Slider tab into the Slider area. I then entered three specific post numbers to test things out (in the Slider Settings area), I left the default sizes and transitions intact, added the “Show Content”, etc. What resulted, and didn’t change no matter which content settings I used (Excerpt Only, Content, 150 char vs. some other number, etc) was that the photo and text both rendered beyond the lower boundary of the slider (over the drop shadow), and that the text flowed over the right edge of the image and was pulled away from the right edge. So IOW the “Align Top” and “Align Right” options for the text, did nothing. It aligned neither to the right nor the top. The image also flowed too far left.

I noticed some images overlapped the bottom of the slider and the text box by varying amounts, because the images themselves are not exactly the same size presumably. This leads me to the question: does the slider itself have a requirement that each image be an exact size, be posted at the top of the post or page, etc? And that the text be a certain size and alignment in the post or page… to be fit flush in the slider? Unfortunately StudioPress has no wikis or support pages for its plugins to address these kinds of specific design questions (that I could find), and their support people just linked me back here. So I’m hoping you can provide some expertise where they did not (even though it’s their plugin ironically). ๐Ÿ™‚

Any thoughts? Can’t imagine this is the first time someone’s had this problem but it may be related to leftovers from my old theme or something. I hope not but I could go into phpMyAdmin if necessary and remove any tables or files that might be interfering with Legacy or the Genesis stuff.

One other thing to mention: Using Safari 6.0.5 in all of this. Assuming there is no incompatibility rendering-wise between the slider and Safari since the demos all work fine. Although I’ve never seen a demo with text in it so maybe that’s a difference maker.

Update: Tried a full re-install of the Framework, theme, and plugin. Now, if I do not include Content or Excerpts (only titles), I can at least get everything flush on the left and right sides, and the image flush on the bottom. However I cannot get the text box to be flush to the top or bottom. There’s always about a 30px gap.

Is there an easy means of controlling the appearance of the text box and text — can it all be done via the stylesheet editor? Not sure if the gap is intended or a bug. Thinking maybe that a specified image size is required for use with the slider, and that a gap was intended because it was never considered that the text and image together would “auto-fill” the full width and height of the slider, with everything flush / no overlaps.

As a theme developer if StudioPress ever takes your feedback on their plugins I would really like to see more design control for alignments, image size / scaling options, and text options inside the “Slider Settings area” for version 1.0 — if that’s even planned. ๐Ÿ™‚

Update 2: Noticing a brand new test post with a 960×320 image centered at the top (that’s what I set the slider to for now), works, except for the text alignment stuff… but if I open an existing post and pop that same image at the top to add that into the testing mix, then update the post and load the slider page, that second post doesn’t even show up. The slider “shrinks” and displays no content on that item. Made sure All Taxonomies and Categories was selected… so wonder if something is left over from my old theme still. Even tried inputting the post number as an “include” but did not help.

The widget categories I see are below Let me know if they are the right ones or if something is added / missing. I notice your description says move the slider to the “Slideshow” area but mine actually says “Slider”.

            Header Right
            Primary Sidebar
            Secondary Sidebar
            Slider
            Welcome
            Home Bottom 1
            …2
            …3
            Home Bottom Message
            Footer 1
            …2
            …3
            …4

Can you give me a short “tldr” version of what’s going on ๐Ÿ˜‰

I skimmed through it, but I’m not sure where you are at this point. Do you have a link so we can see what your issue is.

Keep in mind that the theme is 1140px not 960px. So if you add a 960px image it will show up on the left, the slider doesn’t center the images. Once you change the width in your slider settings you’ll need to use the Regenerate Thumbnails plugin which will automatically adjust your images instantly (instead of waiting).

If you’re having issues with the slider, then if I were you, I’d head over to the StudioPress forums and ask directly since the developers who created it will be able to see it.

Let me know if the suggestions above work at all.

I seem to be having the same problem with my slider. It was working fine before I updated to genesis 2.0 and legacy 1.3. The slider is misaligned to the left. I followed the directions from the forum to set up the slider with regards to size. I also sent studiopress a support ticket and I was directed here. Anyway, my site is http://www.kerekswrecker.com. I would really appreciate any help with this. Thanks.

Eric. Those StudioPress forums no longer exist… according to StudioPress itself. They took them down. Basically, StudioPress is providing zero support for its own plugin, which is really disappointing.

Short version: cannot figure out of it’s possible to get the text options to truly sit flush with top or bottom (I don’t think so from what I’ve seen), or get images that do not match the size of the slider to sit flush with all borders and combine with flush text box to cover 100% of the boundaries with no overlaps (also don’t think so). Guessing my best bet with text stuff is a CSS edit but not sure where to find the CSS for a plugin in Genesis’ ecosystem.

AFA the theme being 1140 px… the default size of the slider is substantially less than that right? AFAICT.

My fault, I should have mentioned the Community Forums. The developers that worked on it are usually answering posts there. If they’re not providing support for their plugin, then that’s news to me. I’m not sure why they would direct you here when we haven’t created the plugin, nor do we understand how it works. The only thing we know is how to setup the plugin basics, but anything beyond that (such as functionality issues) can’t be answered by us since it’s not our code or plugin. We just handle the child themes. So I’m guessing they redirected you here by mistake assuming there was a css issue with the theme or something.

If you want to adjust the css of it, you’ll have to figure out what you want to adjust and code in an override in your own style.css file. The Genesis Slider uses it’s own css file, but you can override it by adding code to your css.

@cajunrn your issue is different, you need to change the size to 1140 if you want the image to fit, and use regenerate thumbnails. Also you’re only using one image so thats why the little navigation circles that should appear under the image aren’t showing up. If you only plan to use one image, then you shouldn’t be using a slider to display it. It’s like “killing an ant with a hammer” (quote). Just add the image in a text widget. It will save you some load time, and everything will show up faster.

Eric there is no official support for the plugin in those forums (I had wandered around in there a bit before sending them my help request — via their support form). They literally told me “the support forums are gone”, and sent me a link to this forum. Is what it is I guess. Really shocking to me given the reputation StudioPress has WRT to customer support and paying attention to details. Seems this is one detail they don’t care about enough to have a dedicated wiki and support forum for their plugins that is easy to find.

The search of that General forum reveals several Slider threads, most of which have no answers in them. I’ll dig around the CSS I guess.

Ok, well I’ll at least try and answer whatever I can. Hopefully we can figure something out to get everything working.
