Reply To: How are category descriptions enabled

Epik is the child theme/design, and the child theme doesn’t have much to do with that unless there is code added in the functions file to override it. It’s the Genesis Framework that handles the functionality for the most part, the child theme handles the design.

When I added content in the title/description it seems to show up just fine. Are you adding it in the right place? Specifically the “Category Archive Settings” It works fine for me. The first field of the page labeled “Description” is only for the backend/admin of the categories. If you want the categories to show on your site then you’d need to add it to the “Category Archive Settings“.
