I’m not sure if you can, at least I haven’t seen an easy way to do it just yet. However, you can upload a logo with the tagline inside of it as you mentioned.

Just make sure to add it to your Genesis SEO options so the search engines will still pick up the site name and tagline. Even though your site will only visually show an image, the site title and tagline will still be there in the code for the search engines.
