There isn’t anything within Legacy (or any child theme) that would prevent a plugin from working. It’s just a css file, and functions file.
Having something in your widget area won’t prevent it from working either.
I’ve actually tested on a local Legacy install and it seems to work fine. Do you have any other plugins or anything else that could possibly be interfering?
