    Ah, I thought you were referring to a different issue. Glad everything is working.

    Are these 2 sites done? If so I’ll share them on Twitter/Social Media.

    Also, anytime you create something with one of our themes, feel free to post them on the showcase if you like – http://appfinite.com/forum/showcase/ Not too many people know about it so I’m trying to share the link for those that are interested.

    Great work BTW!

    In reply to: Image Issues on Front Page?

    Wes
    Moderator

    I would recommend linking to maybe 1 or 2 smaller versions of your main Image once your site is viewed on smaller devices (I can help you with this).

    For the desktop/laptops, the image you have already should work fine. If you’re going to view your site from a tablet or mobile/phone, then I would use an image that has your face more towards the center (horizontally).

    What I’ve done in the past is upload an image that focuses on the person’s face/body in the center of the image, so when viewed on a mobile device it only shows the person (rather than the sides of the image). An example is the Aspire Demo. Notice how the person is directly in the middle? We can slice your image to look like that when mobile devices access your site. We can leave the main image as it is, but adding the second image would be good for those mobile devices.

    This is what a lot of the other Big Sites do when they have large images like yours.

    Let me know if you need assistance with any of this. Once we get the second image ready, we can upload and link to it through your CSS.

    Your site is looking Great BTW! Definitely let me know once you have it done so we can share it on Social Media – http://appfinite.com/showcase-your-site

    I don’t see a link to the image in your source code/css. Do you still have a background image uploaded in the WP Customizer for the front-page-12 or did you remove it since the site went live? I do see you added a background color for it in your Custom CSS.

    I was going to create a showcase featuring all of the sites on a single page, but haven’t had the time or the right plugin to get it setup. So instead I created a Forum where everyone can post their links here – http://appfinite.com/forum/showcase/

    You can access it by going to the main forum page – http://appfinite.com/forums/ and clicking the Showcase link.

    Not too many people know about this link just yet, but I’m going to start encouraging more users to post there soon. A lot of people have been sending me their links through email, or social media as well.

    Once you get your site done I always make sure to Tweet it out to all of my followers on Twitter.

    You most likely have an error in your HTML Code somewhere. Anytime you forget to add an Open or Closed Div – <div> or </div> it throws the rest of the code off. This will happen on any Theme or Site that uses HTML.

    To fix this, just check your widgets to make sure you’re not missing any divs, or make sure you don’t have any extra divs. Once you find it and fix it, then it will automatically start working again.

    Once you get the site done, please let me know! You can add it to the Showcase – http://appfinite.com/forum/showcase/ and I’ll post a Tweet on Twitter. It’s looking great so far.

    I am using the Home Features to showcase my featured work on the home page. I’m using the exact code each time, copy and pasting in and changing the words. I get consistent results on 1 – 7 but on 8 and beyond I”m getting strange results. Content shifted right, not much space between it and one above it. Is there something different about these vs 1-7?

    Everything is working perfectly fine on my end.

    “Zooming in”, is not something that people do occasionally when viewing sites, so I wouldn’t worry about that since it’s not really an issue.

    When you do “Zoom In” on websites, all sites have the exact same result/response. It’s definitely not something you should be concerned about, and I don’t think it would be wise to design your code around a page being zoomed in, as it will be off and inconsistent with all of the visitors who you view your site regularly. Plus most visitors to your site won’t be zooming in to view your content anyways.

    Your design is looking pretty nice! You should send Wes an email or let him know about it. I think he’s building a showcase section, but I’ve also noticed he shares customer links on Twitter.

    Hi! The demo’s are up to show the potential of each theme. Each is basically the same in your “admin” workload. These themes are set up with widget areas. Look at the layouts in the samples and you get the idea of what is “possible”. You do not have to use “ALL” the areas (widgets), just the ones you need.

    I use Legacy and Epik. Each slightly different in their layout. I use almost all the areas in the Legacy, but not as many in the Epik. The nice thing about the Epik is the ability to expand as needed.

    Remember, you can put photos, sliders, text..whatever..in each widget. The widget area is almost like a mini-webpage. I use the TinyMCE visual editor (maybe WP-Edit) whatever it’s called and that gives me a “control panel” in the widget just like on a full webpage.

    And, depending on your needs, or what type of business, forum, or service you provide, that will determine which direction you might lean to.

    Hopefully the showcase will be coming soon and you can see examples.

    Topic: Struggling with consistent display across desktop screens resolutions

    in forum inSync Theme Support
    Danna McCormick
    Customer

    Hi Wes,
    I’ve built dozens of sites with your Legacy, Epik and Optimal Themes (let me know when you get get your showcase up), but this is the first site I’ve built with InSync –
    http://www.macrealtyadvisors.com/

    My desktop screen resolution is 1920×1080, but the client’s mac screen is something like 2560×1600, so I can’t see what she’s seeing. However, this link is to a screenshot – http://www.macrealtyadvisors.com/wp-content/uploads/MAC-Realty-Screen-Shot.png

    Note the gap of purple between the slider and home-feature-1. It appears that the height of the slider is dependent upon the padding applied to .slider .wrap and not the content of the slider div. I can’t seem to figure out how to make look good in both of the of desktop resolutions I mentioned above. (Mobile responsive code aside for this conversation).

    Any thoughts or suggestions? I love this Theme but I have never encountered this type of issue, of course the unhappy client thinks I’m an idiot. If the Theme didn’t have the parallax scrolling would that solve the issue? Can I easily disable the parallax to see what happens?

    Many thanks,
    Danna

    Topic: Customise landing page – remove all content

    in forum Epik Theme Support
    jonathonfowler
    Customer

    Hi there,

    I’ve added a full-page background slider using the landing page template to showcase my photos. See an example here: http://www.jonathon.co/pre-wedding-photo-shoot-engagement-photos/

    It’s almost ideal as it is, but there’s a few tweaks that I’m struggling to do, and I’d appreciate if anyone can help me out here please:

    1. How to remove the credit text “All content on this site copyright © 2015 Jonathon Fowler – Wedding Photographer Edinburgh” from landing pages only?

    2. How to remove/make transparent the content area (that would usually contain the page content/text)?

    I added the following to the Epik style.css:

    .page-id-87211 .entry {
    background: transparent none repeat scroll 0 0;
    box-shadow: 0 0px 0px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);
    margin: 0 3px 40px;
    padding: 40px 0 0;
    }

    This has made the content area transparent when I’m logged in, but not when I view on my Android device or incognito window on my desktop.

    3. How to add a small menu or link back to the homepage at the top of the page? (if I include the full default menu it cuts off the top of the slider images and doesn’t look good, but a way to get back to the main pages would be great for users).

    4. How to remove the breadcrumb at the top of the page?

    Any help/advice greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

    This is the first time I’ve seen something like this. I’m wondering if there is something in the Layer Slider Settings that is causing this to happen?

    Can you double check your Layer Slider Settings first just so we can make sure? I would look at the Global settings and make sure the width is set to full width and responsive. You may also want to check the slides individually as well if that doesn’t fix it.

    If none of that helps I can always login for you and take a quick look. If so, just create a temporary user/password and I can see what’s going on.

    In reply to: Welcome feature background colour change

    Wes

    Hi Susie, the reason thats happening is because the Welcome Div/Section contains and holds both the Welcome-Wide and Welcome Feature 1 – 3 all inside the same div. So you would need to separate it and reorganize how it’s displayed from the home.php file.

    Since I’ve done this a bunch of times, I can easily rearrange this code for you if you want. We usually recommend hiring a developer to do Customizations (due to the time & effort) but I can get this done fairly quick since it’s a small/minor modification.

    If you have an FTP login, that would be best and the safest way to edit since were dealing with PHP code. As you may already know, if there is a PHP error in WordPress, your site will show a blank white screen with the error and you’d be unable to access your site to fix it from the WordPress editor. But if you are using FTP, edits can be made Externally, and if there is an error all we would need to do is Undo the mistake and it would revert back. This isn’t an issue from the theme or anything like that, it’s just how PHP code and WordPress is designed.

    Sorry, I’m not sure why my post didn’t show up. I remember replying a couple days ago.

    Anyways, Yes thats the downside of removing the padding/space from the left side of the links like that. The space that was there would show the border evenly on each side. Did you want to remove the border all together? Or try something different?

    “Also with this widget system can I get a developer to create any piece of code and it can go anywhere I want? Eg. replace the search bar with an optin box?”

    Yes, you can replace any section with whatever text, code, plugin, or whatever you need. The widget system in WordPress is “plug and play”.

    In reply to: simple social icons media query

    It seems to be centered just fine, but it looks like one of the icons falls off to the side. The reason thats happening is because it appears you added a fixed width in your Custom CSS –

    .simple-social-icons {
        float: none;
        margin: 0 auto;
        width: 192px;
        display: inline-block;
        padding-right: 10px;
        padding-top: 20px;
    }

    Try removing that width, or adjusting it so that all of the icons will fit inside the widget area.

    @Kronos:

    Good points. I’m just an off the street kind of guy and what attracted to me to WordPress was that it appeared to me (rightly or wrongly) that it held out the premise that here was something that really could give users with no more than MS Word skills to build a website without having to learn PHP or HTML.

    For me, after three websites, that’s proven to be the case. In each of those cases, everything I saw in the demo sites could be implemented without recourse to doing any coding. From what you say, I was probably very lucky.

    However IMO a demo site <i>should</i> include everything that the theme can do “right out of the box” without any coding at all. I suppose you could include things that you might do with it if you knew how to code but then where does the theme promoter stop? Even if he did, it should be clearly stated which features being showcased come with the theme and which can only be implemented by doing your own coding.

    I don’t think the Tutorial and code snippets therein should be considered to be part of the Theme’s promotional material. How many people read a car’s manual before buying a car and driving it out of the lot? You shouldn’t have to, nor should you have to read a theme’s tutorial before buying the theme.

    So you see IMO in order to avoid being misleading, the theme promoter should refrain from showing anything that requires any code writing at all.

    Just my 2c.

    You can add this to your style.css to remove the space under the header –

    .home .head-wrap {
    	margin-bottom: 0;
    }

    That will remove it for the homepage only so it doesn’t affect other pages.

    Great job on the site/links! I’ll add those to the showcase.
