      Say I wanted to add a blog section on the homepage of this site:

      like the sub-footer widgets on this site:
      http://www.clalighting.com/

      could you give me some instructions.

        The easiest way without having to code anything would be to use the Genesis Featured Posts widget that comes with the Genesis Framework.
