We’re a web design shop. My graphic partner loves the slider on the Ally theme but likes the composition of the Optimal theme a bit better.

Is there a way to get the same kind of visual effects in Optimal as Ally shows (in the demo… multiple graphics and layers in the slider?)

Do they use the Genesis Responsive Slider like Legacy does (which is what we have bought previously) or is this different technology?

Thanks. Your themes are 聽much more immaginative than the SP offerings.

Yes you can use the slider that comes with Ally on any theme you want. This is a premium plugin, it’s not freely available like the Genesis Slider. So you could either purchase the plugin by itself (I think its around $20 or so)…..or you could just purchase the Ally theme and get both the plugin and the slider together for $24.95 馃槈

Thanks for the help. We bought the Optimal theme and will use the Gen Slider. The Layer Slider you use cost $15 and looks very nice but we try to stay away from 3rd party plugins as much as possible. We don’t have many issues with 3rd party Gen themes like yours, but we’ve “lost some hair” dealing with some plugins that were not vetted by the SP people.

You did a nice job designing Optimal… gives us a lot of flexibility on where we want to place content… sort of reminds me of a Bootstrap theme.

Curious, how come you don’t sell all of your themes through the SP site. You have two of them there… Legacy and Optimal. I forgot I could have bought Optimal via SP, as I did Legacy a month ago. No problem, the extra $8 is no big deal… maybe better you get it than SP?

Nice theme. You do good work. We’ll be back.

I understand completely. I also try to stick to the plugins and software offered by StudioPress and anyone they recommend. I like things that are designed to be simple to use, and simple to customize. That was the reason why I chose Genesis in the first place.

StudioPress adds community themes one at a time, since they check through each one to make sure everything is setup properly. So hopefully we can get more featured there (I’d like all of them to be there)…..but it will probably be a while.

I have a quick question for you if you have the time –

I’m thinking of updating Optimal based on the latest Genesis 1.9/2.0 standards. It would still have the same design, but it would be completely re-written from the ground up, and it would be 1152px wide just like the Epik theme and all of the newer SP themes. This would mean an almost entirely new theme, but better. The only issue is if someone made a lot of updates to their old theme, it would probably be difficult to transfer those updates since a lot of code would be different. Since you’re an Optimal user, what are your thoughts on doing something like this? I’ll be asking a few others this same question. I just really want all of my themes to be as perfect and up to date (design and code wise) as possible.

            Thanks

It would not make a difference in our shop because with Gen (child) themes we hardly ever mess with any of the theme’s PHP files. If what we want can’t be done in functions.php or via CSS, we don’t do it. Then again what we offer our clients is probably totally different from what others offer.

From my own standpoint, the 1152 grid concept is kind of a solution to a problem most clients don’t have… or care that much about. I’m not saying it is a bad thing, it is simply a “feature” that our clients are not concerned with. So I would say, from our standpoint, that you should go ahead with the upgrade.

On a related note, I decided to buy the Layer Slider. The learning curve looks huge… but perhaps for our graphic arts people it won’t be that big a deal. Their demo sliders work well with Optimal. Whether we will have use for it will be determined later… and not by me.

While I’m here, can I ask if you know where there is a good short code for a testimonial box that works will with Gen themes… Optimal? I’ve got the Elegant collection but have not tried any of them with a Gen theme.

I’ve never seen any for Genesis particularly. I usually just create custom code for testimonials.
