I’ve followed the instructions from the Guru theme setup documentation, but the demo site isn’t working properly. None of the demo content shows up on the live site even though Genesis is installed and Guru is active. All I see is the “Sample Post With Threaded Comments” page on a blank background. I’ve installed the demo .xml and can see that the import worked correctly by looking at the available pages. When I go to upload the provided .wie file (from the Guru theme setup documentation), I am met with an error message stating “You must upload a .wie file generated by this plugin.” Any ideas?

The .wie file is for the Homepage widgets. When I install the file it loads everything instantly with no issues. I’ve seen 1 or 2 people in the past that had trouble with the filename converting a to a .txt file every time they downloaded it to their computer. I believe it was their Operating System/Desktop converting it for some reason. This issue doesn’t happen on my end, the file remains as a .wie file.

Is your file showing up on your computer as a .wie file, or is it converting to a .txt file as well?

If it is showing up wrong, I can install it for you if you want. All I would need is a temporary login. It should only take a few seconds. Just let me know

Also, did you install the .wie file using the Plugin mentioned on the Documentation page? That’s a separate (free) Plugin that is needed in order to upload Widget Content in WordPress.

More info and link to the Plugin is located in the Docs here – https://appfinite.com/theme-setup/guru-theme-setup/#ihp

Thanks for the quick responses! Yes, I used the plugin to install the .wie file and yes, it’s definitely saved as a .wie file, not a .txt.

The other odd thing I’ve noticed is that no images are showing up. This doesn’t happen with other themes, just Guru. My hosting provider is wpengine.com if that makes a difference.

Just saw that the .wie import is a known issue:

              https://wordpress.org/support/topic/you-must-upload-a-wie-file-generated-by-this-plugin-2/

I still don’t know why images aren’t loading or why the demo site doesn’t look right. Could be more 4.7.1 problems.

OK.. after downgrading to 4.7.0, everything works. Amazing that a dot revision completely and utterly broke the theme. Will be upgrading to 4.7.3 shortly to eliminate some known security issues, so we’ll see how that works.

Thanks for the heads up, I didn’t know about the .wie issues with WP 4.7.1. I’ll keep that in mind in case anyone runs into an issue in the future.
