I am trying to recreate the effect of your demo home page and have a very basic problem – According to the breadcrumbs my Front Page is Home/Blog – and this is where I’ve set up the Front Page widgets, but I want a static home page at “Home” for this.  I’ve tried resetting it to ‘static home page’ but then it just goes to the default layout.  Please tell me what I’m not seeing.

I’ve been working with Headway until now so I’m not a total newbie, but I am somewhat baffled working with the theme and have several more questions to ask in separate topics.

I’m setting up the site at “theclassicaleducator.com” – when it’s running properly I’ll transfer it to it’s proper home.  Since it’s a business site I can’t afford to have it down while I play around.

    Thanks.

For Genesis themes (in most cases) the Reading Settings should be set to “Your Latest Posts” if the theme already has a home.php file.  If you’re using the Optimal theme, you would need to set it to “Your Latest Posts” since the home.php file of the theme will automatically be detected and used as the homepage.

Your blog page will be setup by creating a page and naming it “Blog” (or whatever you want) and then selecting the “Blog” template on the right hand side of the Page editor.  This is the exact way most Genesis sites are setup….including the demo.

Thank you Wes.  I’ve set that to show ‘Your Latest Posts’ and it looks good.

The problem I now have is that the ‘Home’ link in the navigation bar takes me to “Home/home”  “http://theclassicaleducator.com/home” not to Home  as in “http://theclassicaleducator.com” and I can’t work out how to make ‘Home – the front page’ show in the navigation bar.

However, I did figure this one out – I changed ‘Home’ to a custom link and now it is just what it should be.

Yes that should work.  The other way is to look at the menu list under “Pages” and click “View All”, then you’ll see the “Home” link at the very top.  This home link is your main site url (without the “home” in the url).

Since you got it working I’ll go ahead and close.
