I was able to fix this issue relatively quickly because I know the WordPress hierarchy but it was still annoying to need to go in and fix the theme. The front page widgets are all written on to home.php which means that when I have a blank page as my first page, none of the widgets work. Went to the blog page to check a hunch and there were all the widgets. The home.php needs to be renamed to front-page.php or others will run into this issue and they may not have been around wordpress enough to know how to fix it.

        Hi Missy,

Yes this is an older version of the theme which was created and released all the way back in 2011. Back when it was created, most Genesis themes used home.php as the home page, which meant leaving the Settings > Reading Settings page set to “Latest Posts”. The home.php automatically activates when a Home Widget is being used. All of my recent themes use front-page.php.

This theme (as well as a few of the other older themes) will be updated to the latest Genesis and WordPress standards….and they’ll also look much better with a few extra features. I’m currently working on getting those ready for release soon.
