Menu formatting in Footer Widget

I have tried two methods to display a menu in the footer. At issue is that I would like the dropdown or .sub-menu items to appear at all times, not just when you hover over the parent.

In using the primary nav code, I’ve tried changing the opacity of the .sub-menu from 0 to 1 but couldn’t get that to work.

I then tried using a custom menu widget but that stacks everything vertically.

Any thoughts, ideas or tutorials? My searching came up with nothing.
