I have two major issues and cannot seem to get it fixed without adding unnecessary plugins.
1. How do I add a search option in the header menu which comes custom with many other themes?
2. How do I set my blog posts to display a sidebar without having to set it as global feature for the whole site which causes my woocommerce or about pages to also display the sidebar, i.e. how do I make pages full width and blog posts content/sidebar?
ThanksNovember 5, 2020 at 12:59 am #23964November 5, 2020 at 1:02 am #23965November 5, 2020 at 2:47 am #23966
Thank you so much Wes!
The blog advice worked beautifully.
But, the search part is a tad above my paygrade.
I’ve gone to the child theme setup but cannot see where I access the file to add the code.
Could you help me with that?
I can set up a temporary login for you.November 5, 2020 at 6:48 am #23967November 5, 2020 at 2:51 pm #23969
Hi again Wes,
I’ve mananged to add the code with the css but I cannot seem to get the size setting right in the code to make the search box fit. How can I change the code best based on your theme setup? See my site at therelationshipguy.com as I cannot add a screenshot here. I will leave it as is for now so you can see. Looks nasty though.November 5, 2020 at 4:14 pm #23971November 5, 2020 at 4:15 pm #23972
Also, how do I set up and display the email newsletter widget like in the demo? When I use Gutenberg editor to edit that page, I cannot seem to get the option to do that, and I also cannot add it via the widgets as there are only sidebar options. ThanksNovember 5, 2020 at 4:18 pm #23973
Hi Wes, it looks great on your end, but on my end, the search box doesn’t fit on one line with the menu (i can show you a screenshot but don’t know where).November 5, 2020 at 4:21 pm #23974November 5, 2020 at 4:29 pm #23976November 5, 2020 at 4:32 pm #23977
Did you see what my search box looks like on my end?
Here’s a screenshot.
When in incognito it looks fine, but not when logged in as admin.November 5, 2020 at 4:38 pm #23978November 5, 2020 at 5:22 pm #23979
Hey Wes, it seems the browser cache was the issue. Thanks.
Regarding the newsletter setup as per demo (I have atomic blocks) – how do I get it to look like yours in the demo though? Mine comes out not looking like that at all. I like the arrow pointing to the email box etc.November 6, 2020 at 4:39 pm #23980November 6, 2020 at 4:54 pm #23982November 8, 2020 at 3:11 pm #23987
Hi Wes, thanks much for your detailed replies. I will be going through these today to see where I can make some adjustments and improvements to my site. By the way, do you have any idea why the footer area on some pages (for example 404) moves and displays halfway up the page? It doesn’t do it on all the pages I just on some that have minimal content on it. Cheers.November 9, 2020 at 4:48 pm #23988November 19, 2020 at 12:56 am #24026
Hi again Wes, How did you set up the footer in the demo with the three headings as I can’t seem to get mine to look like that. I do have the copyright and company name though. ThanksNovember 23, 2020 at 3:02 am #24031
I installed WP Rocket today and suddenly my hero image shows half screen in mobile? What might the cause and fix for this, thanks. See TheRelationshipGuy.com on mobile.November 23, 2020 at 3:26 pm #24034November 30, 2020 at 4:05 pm #24038
Hope you’re well. I need your help again. I’m trying to get my speed site up. I’ve tried everything, installed WP rocket, got rid of some “fat”, and made some of the changes. It has improved, but I’m struggling with getting the first Largest Contentful Paint (eg hero image) on the homepage to load faster. I’ve tried reducing the size of it, used different pictures and so on but I can’t seem to get a better. Also, when you load the site on mobile, the menu shows every time you go to a new page while it’s loading. Is this a coding fix or do you have other ideas? I really like the look and feel of this theme, but I somehow need to speed some of it up. Yes, my images have been optimised through shortpixel and I use YouTube video links instead of hosting the videos on my site, to try and reduce space. Cheers.December 1, 2020 at 2:25 am #24040
