I’m trying to enable multiple portfolio pages.
I have read .. https://appfinite.com/tutorials/how-to-create-multiple-portfolios/ .. and enabled query_args in the name field, and cat=1 (for example) in the value field but it’s still returning all posts (from all categories).
It’s on a dev site which is password protected, otherwise I’d add a link to show you.
Unfortunately that’s going to be tough to figure out since we can’t see your admin area.
Are you creating a Page and selecting the portfolio template?
Are you sure the category you’re adding to the page exists?
I create awesome sites for awesome people! Contact me if interested – ericsanchez1585@gmail.com
Yes, page created and portfolio template selected. The template works perfectly.
The Cat exists and I have tried two different Cat IDs but I’ll try a few more.
Thanks.
Have now tried a few Cat IDs and nothing works.
I’ve added “query_args” to ‘Name’ in Custom Fields and the Cat ID to ‘Value’.
The page is created and works well but the Cat ID does not.
Any other advice.
I’m happy to give someone the Staging site ID (privately) if it helps?
Thanks.
@seama is it possible for you to send a screenshot showing how you have it added in your custom field?
I can figure out exactly what it is if you can create a temporary username/password so I can login and check.
You can send it here – https://appfinite.com/contact-us (address it to me), or you can add it here in a private message and no one else will be able to see it.
@wes
I’ve got a the screenshot as requested but I don’t know how to get it to you as I can see how to attached files.

Sorry for the late response, it’s my birthday and I’ve been busy all day.
The login doesn’t seem to work when I try it.
For the WP admin, any email should work, all I would need is a username/password to login with.
For the screenshots, most of us just use something like http://imgur.com to upload pictures since bbPress (the forum software I’m using) doesn’t have an easy way to upload screenshots.
Happy Birthday! I hope you had a great day.
The Login should work, I’ve just managed to login. Try clicking on the “Log in” button rather than pressing Enter.
The other thing is to hand-type it in rather than cut & paste.
I’ll send the WP Login through via the Contact Form.
Hi Wes, I am a new user of Epik. Also, belated Happy Birthday!
Multiple Portfolios Not Working for me as well.
This portfolio page should only have one picture but is getting all my pictures, like you can see here. http://www.pbase.com/vanwhite/image/154608305
I followed your tutorial here https://appfinite.com/tutorials/how-to-create-multiple-portfolios/
I had made a post and set category to Recipes & Cooking like this
Then I made a page with template set to portfolio; custom fields turned on; Name= query_args; and Value set to Cat= Recipes & Cooking like this
Your tutorial says to set Cat=1, but I don’t have any idea if there is a category number associated with Recipes & Cooking. If so, where would I find it?
My category page is here. Notice the one of interest, Recipes & Cooking
Also, why am I getting the text below my picture like this “[caption id=attachment_187… ? See here
Thanks so much!
That post I just made should be deleted, but I can’t see how to. (The links didn’t all show up.) Here it is corrected:

@seama It’s working, you just forgot to add this part – cat=
….you just had the 3 by itself.
So it should look like exactly like this when you add it in the name field –
cat=3
@Van double check your name field to see if your issue is the same. Not sure why that caption code is showing up. Do you have an image added to your content area of the Portfolio page? Or are you using a plugin somewhere that might be adding this in?
@Wes, Thanks for your reply.
1. My name field is equal to query_args
2. My value field is equal to cat=1
When those are set the portfolio page with category set to either videos OR recipes & cooking returns ALL the pictures.
When I set the cat=2 or cat=3 or cat=4 I get nothing and at.
3. How does one know what cat number it is?
4. I did have a content picture in there. That returned the weird text “Caption code…” So, I deleted that picture.
So, please help me with the portfolio page and setting the category. I need to use this feature a LOT!
Thanks.
You would actually need to find out the Category before adding one in. WordPress doesn’t always name them 1, 2, 3, 4 and so on….sometimes the numbers can be anything, like 120, 249, 360, etc. WordPress has a Categories page under “Posts” in your admin. One way to find out is to hover over one of the categories and look at the link….or you could copy the link paste it somewhere and then look at the link. You should see the ID of the category inside of the url. Let me know if that helps.
@Wes,
Doh! I’m so sorry for making such a basic error. Thank you so much. So love this theme!
No problem at all 🙂 Glad I could help!
Wes, thanks for your help. Now “multiple portfolios” is working well. Below is a summary of the complete process for making a portfolio showing only one category, for any other newbies that have trouble.
1. Dashboard, Posts, Add New and type the obvious fields.
On the right in the Categories section, check on one or more categories or Add New Category.
2. Dashboard, Posts, Categories
Right click on category name and select “Open link in new window” and look for ID=[a number]. Remember that category number.
3. From Dashboard, Pages, Add New and type the obvious fields. Do not put a picture in the content area, or some weird caption… text will appear.
On the right in the Page Attributes section, set Template to Portfolio.
At the top, expand Screen Options and check the box “Custom Fields.”
In the Custom Fields section at the bottom, in the Name field type “query_args”.
In the Value field type “cat=[category number], e.g. cat=5. Cat= does not work (It can’t be CAPITALIZED.) Neither can it be a category name.
4. Add the new page to the appropriate menu.
Great! Glad everything is working.
