CustomerJust purchased Ally child theme. Have been working with it for about 60 minutes and cannot solve the following problem. Post images (whether inserted via “featured image” or inserted directly into the post editing window) do not resize correctly on the home page. The images resize to fill the entire width of the post. If I have teasers setup (2 columns) the images are at the top of the post and resized to fit the entire width of the column. If I have the front page set to just one column for posts and teasers, the images are the full width of the post, in this case, the full width of the page. I have double checked the Genesis settings for blog page images and post teaser images and they are set for 150×150 pixels. You can take a look at my test site: www.balance.collegevector.com. Any help would be appreciated.

ModeratorHow are your posts showing on the homepage? Are you using a widget, plugin, or did you add code to your functions or home.php file?

CustomerWes,
Sorry for the delayed response. I tried some trouble shooting over the past several days before I responded back to you. In order to rule out any plugins or file edits, I created and installed a fresh WordPress site. No additional plugins were added. I installed the current version of Genesis and your Ally theme.
Same problem exists. Here is another, more detailed explanation:
FEATURED IMAGE FUNCTION
When inserting an image into a post using the FEATURED IMAGE function (no matter what size the image is):
On Archive page – image shows at full width of the content column, even if the column width is larger than the actual width of the image
On Post page – picture does NOT show on the actual post page
(So, not sure if Ally supports the “featured image” function)
INSERTING IMAGE INTO POST FROM ITS WYSIWYG EDITING WINDOW
When inserting an image directly into the post:
On archive page – shows at full width of the content column no matter what the actual image size is (same problem as using the featured image function)
On post page – picture displays CORRECTLY based upon selected settings for picture size that are selected in the “add media” window when inserting the image directly into the post
The test site is http://www.ally.collegevector.com. I would be happy to PM you the login credentials so you can mess around the back end.
Thanks for your help with this.

ModeratorI don’t see any full width images……I’m guessing you’ve made changes. If it happens again, it could be a similar issue as this – https://appfinite.com/topic/content-archive-image-size/ ….solution is at the end of the thread.
Give that a try and see if that fixes the issue.
Also, this theme does support featured images, but they only show on your posts page if you have the option checked. They don’t show on your actual post page (single)…..but the images that you add inside of the post content area will. Thats the way it works for all Genesis themes unless you create a custom template that is designed to show the featured image in a specific place.

CustomerWes,
Thanks and sorry. Sorry that I didn’t direct you to the specific archive (Featured Posts) that demonstrated the photo width problem. I was brain-dead on that one.
Thanks that you: 1.) explained how featured images work / don’t work with Genesis; 2.) provided the thread with the CSS edit solution. Editing the style.css file as indicated did work.
Thanks for the help and solution. You can close out this thread.
