      Hello from Tokyo,

After many happy months with my Legacy theme, I have not yet upgraded Genesis from 1.9. I worked long & hard, often with your assist to get the site done and it really looks & works very nicely. That said, I’m wondering if do finally upgrade to the latest Genesis what difficulties I might face.

All my changes were to CSS code except maybe 2 pieces of php code that Wes sent to me. Will I lose those php functions when I upgrade? And can I expect any other issues to appear, or crash or damage my site?

I appreciate any advice that you have picked-up from other customers that might help me have a safe upgrade experience.

      Thanx
      Tom Dolan

You should be able to upgrade the Genesis Framework to the latest version with no issues. Genesis 2.0+ is HTML5, but it will still allow you to use the XHTML (your version of the theme). You wouldn’t have to worry about anything unless you were planning on converting your site to HTML5….if so, then you would definitely have to go though everything and convert the old code to the new code. This probably isn’t something most people want to do, but if you want to give it a try you can take a look here – https://appfinite.com/topic/legacy-1-3-for-genesis-2-0-html5-is-now-available/

I’ve updated sites using the older versions of Genesis themes with Genesis 2.0 and they still work fine. If you don’t have HTML5 activated in your functions file then it won’t use it, so you should be good to go.

Before you upgrade, make sure you have a couple backups of everything. Also, make sure your hosting company has a backup as well. Just to be on the safe side.
