      Hello,

Following your tutorial I am able to easily set up the widget areas on Epik’s homepage so that I have text in one half, an image (or other text) in the other. What I’m wondering about, though is how to get two actual widgets side-by-side. As an example, I am using a calendar plugin to show upcoming events that customers need to register for. I’d like to have that on the left and on the right of it I’d like text/CTA telling people to go register. In other words, instead of an image there’d be a calendar. Can you point me in the right direction to get that going? I’m thinking I need to shorten the width of the widget containers for that section, then float one left and the other right, then add css to the responsive area to make the containers 100% width again. Does this sound like the right track?

      Thanks,
      Edee

ps… LOVE this theme! Found it in the nick of time when I was trying to reinvent the wheel. Only my wheel is more like a 1989 Honda Civic and Epik is a 2014 Mercedes. Whew!

Yes it sounds like you’re on the right track, you just need to look in your home.php file to make the changes to the html/php code. The widgets are wrapped inside of the different backgrounds that you see. So you would need to create an extra widget next to the ones that are already there (just duplicate and rename) and that should be it. Make sure and register your new widgets in your functions file. There is a lot of info on how to create widgets on the StudioPress tutorial pages.

Thanks – kronos (sorry for the delayed response). I did it in one section just with css – yay me! But I need another section split in half, so I think I’ll follow your advice and look at registering a new widget area. I know how to do it, I was being lazy and looking for a way around it. But I think adding a widget is better because then clients can put whatever they want there without worrying about margins/padding/floats, etc.

          Thanks again 馃檪
