      Hi,

My content has regular double-quotes (“) but when it appears on the site, it appears a bit different.

So when a customer copies the code displayed on the page, the double-quotes get copied funnily, and that breaks our shortcode.

      See http://screencast.com/t/pohUaN7W

      Here’s the page: http://DigitalAccessPass.com/doc/dap-shortcodes/

Is there a way to make genesis show the double quotes exactly how double quotes should be displayed? i.e, normally?

      Thanks.

This isn’t caused by the Epik theme. The Epik/Child theme doesn’t have an effect on how that shows up. Your quotes show up like that based on your own Operating System, Browser, Keyboard Settings, etc. So you’ll have to figure out how you’re copying/pasting them into the site so you can get it fixed.

For proof that it’s working, you can look at this page from their demo to see that the quotes show up properly – http://demo.appfinite.net/epik/buttons/ (scroll down to the code)

Out of all the client sites I’ve used this theme with in the last couple years, I’ve never ran into an issue like this. This is my first time hearing about it which is why I’m sure it’s either your OS, Keyboard, Program, or some other type of external issue causing this.

          Eric,

If I change themes, then the issue goes away and the quotes show up properly.

So it has absolutely nothing to do with OS/Browser/Keyboard etc. If I look at the “Source” tab of the WordPress post, the double quotes look normal. They look normal in any other theme except Epik.

So the issue is definitely the Epik theme. I realize you are not the author and don’t work for the company. So thank you for your response.

I’m hoping to hear from the theme developer on how to fix this.

          Thanks,

          – Ravi

If the issue was the Epik theme then it would happen to all the users who use the theme. Plus the link I posted was from their demo which shows that the quotes do in fact show up properly.

There isn’t anything within the Epik theme that would prevent or modify which font/character shows up. Child themes don’t usually alter something like that. The Genesis Framework itself (not the child theme) is what handles Functionality and how everything works on top of WordPress. Child themes like Epik only affect the design, not functionality. So when you say you are switching themes, which themes are you switching to? Are you switching to other themes that utilize the Genesis Framework? Or are you switching to something completely separate?

If you do a Google search you can see plenty of others who have the exact same issue and the majority of the issues were related to what was mentioned above.

When you get a chance, try and copy/paste the code from the actual Epik Demo link I posted earlier, then add that to a temporary page/post so we can take a look.

Even better – if you can create a temporary username and password I can login to your site for you and see exactly whats going on. If you’re willing to do that then you can add the login info here just make sure to check the Private Reply checkbox below.

I agree with @eric this is the result of you or someone else adding in the wrong quote. The 2 different quotes would still be there regardless of whatever theme you use since the quote/code is visible inside of your actual Source Code itself. The source code shows 2 different symbols when you take a look at it, and that definitely has nothing to do with the theme. You can view it here – view-source:http://digitalaccesspass.com/doc/dap-shortcodes/

I copied this from your sites Source Code –

See how you have 2 different symbols added? In order to change this, you just need to replace them with the correct quote/symbol that you want to use. I’ve seen other people on a totally different WordPress theme run into an issue like this, and it was due to the plugin they were using, and another had this happen to them because of the Visual Editor that they were using to add their content.

Changing the theme won’t change the symbol that you are adding to your code. You need to go through and replace each symbol with the correct one. The fastest way to do this is to copy your content and add it to a HTML/CSS editor and then use the “Find and Replace” option to replace each quote/symbol with the one that you want to be displayed. If you do it this way, it should only take 2 seconds for everything to be fixed automatically….rather than going through and replacing each one since that would be time consuming.

                Hi Kronos,

                >>I copied this from your sites Source Code –
                [DAP day=”1″ hasAccessTo=”1″]Video 1 Embed Code[/DAP]<<

The source of the page is only reflecting the quotes that have already been modified either by Genesis or by Epik (or both). So you’re only proving my point. A normal double-quote is showing up as a smart-quote when you view the page, and since by that time the theme or whatever has already affected the quote, when you do a view-source, the same messed-up quote is going to show up in the view-source as well.

I made a quick video that shows that the back-end quotes are all normal, it’s the front-end quotes that are getting screwed up.

                See http://screencast.com/t/HnTvtIY4zHD

Hope we can get to the bottom of this.

Thanks for your time and help!

                  @RaviJayagopal

“The source of the page is only reflecting the quotes that have already been modified either by Genesis or by Epik (or both).”

The Epik theme doesn’t have the ability to modify what shows up in your Text editor. Please take a look at the code in the files for proof.

I’m not sure if you saw my reply (right before @kronos) but if you can create a temporary Username/Password, then I can login and take a look. Other than that there’s not much anyone can do.

One thing I am sure of is that you have something else causing this issue, it’s definitely not the Epik theme. I’ve provided proof in my previous comments.

Since you have a program editor, take a look at each Epik file (there aren’t that many) and you will see that there isn’t anything inside that would cause this. Epik only handles design, it doesn’t prevent or alter the way quotes show up on your site. I know I’ve already mentioned it, but please take a look at the Epik Demo to see proof that the Quotes show up as they should (look at the buttons page).

I would also take a look at any plugins you have. There are plenty of cases where other users had plugins that caused this issue.

Out of all of the thousands of other customers who use this theme, this issue has never shown up here. If there is anyone else that has had this issue please let us know. If you’ve been using this theme and have never had this happen please let us know as well. I would love to see multiple responses to this.

Again, if you can provide a login, I can easily check this out and most likely have this fixed. If not, then everything we mention will be a shot in the dark, as it would just be guesses. Just let me know.
