For the Genesis Responsive Slider Wes uses in Epik, like me you will probably need to make several PNG files with transparent backgrounds.
The PNG format is a bit of a heavyweight when compared with JPG, but of course it has transparency, which JPG doesn’t.
I just used The Panda at TinyPNG to reduce 5 files by 65% ~ that’s over 1Mb of weight loss.
Why? A much faster loading homepage.
TinyPNG uses smart lossy compression techniques to reduce the file size of your PNG files. By selectively decreasing the number of colors in the image, fewer bytes are required to store the data. The effect is nearly invisible but it makes a very large difference in file size!
Check it out.
