      Hi Eric –

Thanks so much for jumping in on this! I really appreciate the help. : )

Actually, it’s the author box that I was unsure about. The changes I was making to the author-box class weren’t taking, and led me to think that I might be trying to style the wrong selectors. Turns out that there were some connectivity issues getting in the way – discovered this morning that the changes I made last night did in fact show up a few hours later. I think all is resolved at this point (knock on wood) – apologies for the false alarm.

Good thought on the missing open/close divs – will check that out. Could be at the root of the layout issue.

Thanks again for the help! Hope you have a good night ahead.

        Hi Wes –

So I think I have the page layout issues addressed on this one. Using the theme author box seems to resolve the problem.

But I’m running into an issue styling the theme author box – I must be trying to make changes in the wrong place. Here’s what I’m doing:

        1) I’ve changed the WP settings to enable an author box for one user: Users / User / Author Archive Settings / Enable Author Box on this User’s Posts

        2) I’ve been applying the styling changes to the class .author-box in the theme’s css.

So far, none of the changes have shown up on the web page. Is there a different file or class that I need to be styling, or am I overlooking something simple?

Thanks for the great help as always – we’re in the home stretch on this one. : )

          Hi Wes –

Quick update: I think the culprit here may be the .php code that I added. I was able to do some testing this afternoon and it looks promising.

We migrated servers this afternoon, and I haven’t been able to work through the details, but I’m hoping that by returning to the theme author box the problems might go away.

Didn’t want you burning a lot of late-night time on this one at this point – will keep you in the loop.

          Thanks as always,

          Brian

            Hi Eric –

Thanks so much for the suggestion – I didn’t think of that! Really appreciate you getting back to me with your ideas. : )

I gave the after entry widget a try, but got the same result – i.e. without the author box the ad positions properly and the recent posts stay where they belong at the top of the sidebar.

But as soon as the author box is activated, the recent posts (in sidebar1) is displaced to the bottom of the page – and it actually looks like the webhooks that follow are reformatted to a greater width, if that’s possible. At any rate, the author box seems to be the culprit.

A few images to show what’s happening:

Without Author Box - Top of Page

Without Author Box - Bottom of Page

With Author Box, and Ad at After Entry - Top of Page

With Author Box, and Ad at After Entry - Bottom of Page

I’m pretty sure it’s not a conflict with the Advanced Ads plugin, because the hooks are reordering as soon as the author box is activated – regardless of whether Advanced Ads is active.

Even with Advanced Ads deactivated, the author box is causing three hooks (g-after-entry, g-after-endwhile, and g-after-loop) to migrate to the top of the sidebar – so it definitely appears to be creating unexpected consequences. Just not sure why.

Ideas? This is a head-scratcher for me. Really appreciate any insights you have.

            Thanks again,

            Brian

Whoops! Screwed up the order of the images. Apologies.

Should be like this. Before Author Box is added (bottom and top of page):

Before Author Box - Bottom of Page

Before Author Box - Top of Page

And after the Author Box is added (bottom and top of page):

After Author Box - Bottom of Page

After Author Box - Top of Page

Sorry ’bout that. This one should make more sense. Page in question is at http://patschuler.com/uncategorized/whats-your-blind-spot-deal-with/

              Thanks again, Wes.

                Awesome – Thanks Wes!

I checked out the link, and it looks like that should do it. Will go back to the workshop and tinker a bit.

Thanks for the help as always, and have a great night!

I think that’s a great idea – why don’t you login and add the code in. The login credentials are the same. Just give me a comment line in the .php so I know where to find the code if I need to.

                        Hi Wes –

After all we’ve been through on this thread, I really hate to say this – but I think I’m having the same issue as Artist Clara.

After we changed the featured image setting (Genesis / Theme Settings / Content Archives / Featured Image) I discovered a stray image on my home page. I believe it’s posting to the beginning of the content Front Page Content Section Display. (Under Appearance / Customize / Front Page Content Section Display I have it set to “Show content section” – and even though I’m choosing not to display blog post updates here, I needed the section visible so I could build out the rest of the front page).

So it turns out that the image displayed was the very first image that was uploaded to the image library. (It’s also one of the images that displays in the testimonial slider, which is the first section in the Front Page Content Section Display). I thought it might have something to do with an image setting, so I deleted out the image. After that, the old image was immediately replaced by the next image in the library.

And, of course, the stray image disappears as soon as I turn off the featured image setting. I’ve left it displaying on the website now (patschuler.com).

-sigh- Has to be something straightforward that we’re overlooking here, just not sure where to start digging.

If you would be willing to take one more look at this, I would really appreciate it. Thanks as always for the great help!

Thanks so much, Jason – I really appreciate you checking this out for me! Totally eliminates the concern about additional CSS code.

I’m missing something though – I’m still getting the same unchanged result.

So, I’m making some assumptions – could I ask you to verify if I’m going off track on these?

                                      1) I’m assuming we insert the code into the Aspire Theme functions.php

                                      2) Also assuming that the code can be pasted into the bottom of the file (location makes no difference).

                                      3) And finally assuming that the code can be pasted “as is” – no additional characters needed.

I figure I must be missing the boat on (at least) one of these three. If not, would you be kind enough to include a screen shot of the code you added so I can duplicate it?

Many thanks for the help – and sorry to be so thick about it. 馃檪

Thanks so much for this, Eric – I really appreciate the help!

I installed the code and it didn’t change the image/title positions. I noticed that the source http://bit.ly/2crzVEw mentions that Genesis 2.0 users:

“need to edit style.css file and remove clear: both; css code from .entry-meta class in order to float the featured image.”

I think this may be what’s needed, but I wasn’t able to find an .entry-meta class in the Aspire theme css.

Do you have any thoughts on what might be the equivalent class to modify in Aspire?

Static: orange button, white text (as it appears currently).

One last thing: I reset the hover color to white which works well, and when you hover over the button and the text, the text goes to orange – which is perfect. But you have to hold the mouse pointer right over the text in order for it to display in the button (or it ends up looking confusing/unfinished).

I’m assuming the text fade-in is controlled by the .genesis-nav-menu class. Is there a way to disable it for just this button? Or, even better, to trigger the text fade-up when hovering over the button area instead of the text area?
