A thousand thank you’s Wes. I will check and do the work later on today. Massive relief.
Guy
no one come across this issue then?
no one knows?
Can you enter the code as you have entered it into style.css here.
Wow! Thanks Eric! I’ve been waiting for months to be able to do that and hoping Wes was going to be available soon to do it for me. I think previously I had not unticked the ’tile’ option so it made my background look like a website reject from the early nineties.
Thanks once again Eric I appreciate it.
Hi and thanks Eric, so for example, in my slider wide widget I add an image (say using a text widget to add the image url code) and then add another text widget to add the text that will overlay the image?
Hi Wes, yes the first idea worked. I’ve not tested the second.
Thanks for your help.
I have added:
.home {
background: #ff0000;
}
to style.css
yet if I change the home page color using the option in the:
/wp-admin/customize.php
it still changes the home page.
I tried adding the above code to home.php but that didnt work either.
Can you advise please?
Right I’m with you Wes. Ok thank you. Can you advise how can I change the post page colour (not the post text area itself) ?
Hi Wes, no the link I gave you showed a post page not the home page. Please can you advise on the post page background only please.
Hi Eric, I gave up, I assumed the theme isn’t designed to cascade the menu listings and after testing and mucking around with three other plugins I finally found one that worked fine. Its amazing that some things you assume will be straight forward seem to be so hard to achieve. Two very advanced plugins wouldn’t cascade when viewed in an ipad. The jQuery Vertical Accordion Menu does the job if anyone else needs it.
Hi atomicduo, thanks for that. Yes, all padding now done.
For the landscape background with floating text there are a number of online tutorials but they are complicated. Also, consider when your image responds to smaller sized screens what you want the image to do. It will automatically shrink in size but there seems to be options to either align left to show just the left (or other) part of the image (if it is simply a background) or you can crop to a specific position of the image as it becomes responsive.
ALl is a bit over my head right now!
Excellent, thank you Wes, that made a lot of difference.
I have realised my white background images have a fair bit of pixel white at the bottom as well so clearly I need to do some cropping to tighten things up as well.
Yes thanks Wes that’s the one. I have found a few in CSS which is great but I need help with the gap between home feature 4 and 5 widgets as well as the space that occurs under the menu in mobile screen mode.
Thanks
Does anyone know where I can find the css that defines that white gap below the header ? is it part of the slider widget or a bottom margin for the header above?
I’ve tried reducing all margins I have found that seem to be relevant to the above two items in style.css but nothing changes this big margin.
thanks
Thanks Wes, it was a plugin causing me an error. I appreciate your help with this even though its not your issue. Apologies for wasting your time.
Wes, do you know of any developers available to help me with this?
Thanks
Thanks Wes. Its a shame the design isn’t using the horizontal lines icon that seems to becoming a standard in mobiles for a menu button.
Thanks Eric, I’ve taken a look via plugins and also code canyon with no results for top image with text overlay or floating text.
I think it is something that perhaps comes with the right theme. Im hoping to get a response at APpfinite for contract work asap.
THanks
Hi Wes, thanks for the clarification. I have changed this detail in the functions.php of the epik child theme to:
// Add support for custom header
add_theme_support( ‘genesis-custom-header’, array(
‘width’ => 475,
‘height’ => 105
) );
but I get blank pages when I try to upload an image that size, so it fails before I get to the crop option (although the image I am trying to upload is exactly 475×105.
Is this size just too much for the layout ?
Guy
Maybe its just better to find a plugin or special widget that allows me to use a single image with a text overlay?
Hi Wes, I’ve tried the above code:
//* Add support for custom header as instructed by Wes adds code for my header logo dimensions */
add_theme_support( ‘custom-header’, array(
‘width’ => 475,
‘height’ => 105,
‘header-selector’ => ‘.site-title a’,
‘header-text’ => false,
) );
but get blank screens when trying to select an image (before I get to the crop or not option). If I remove the code I get back to the usual size.
Is there something missing?
Thanks
Thank you Wes but the tutorials are a little beyond me so I will have to park this for now. Thanks for your advice anyway.
OK thanks. But getting back to the menu drop down option. Can you advise how I can do the second option you mentioned above?
Thanks
typo on 2) should read,
2) The text that floats above the image in Slider Wide looks fine in a big screen view but as you reduce the screen size and the image reduces nicely, the text begins to float above other areas outside the Slider Wide widget. So it seems the positioning code is not restricted to the widget but positions across the website as a whole.
Thank you Kronos
Thank you Wes! racked my brains over the CSS half a day on that. White background now gone. Thank you.
In terms of the menu, it would probably be best for me to have the second option because I’m still hoping to have a full background image at the top underlayimg the title and menu. Any guides for doing that would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Any suggestions for me Wes?
I would prefer to enter a full screen image in the logo setting so that I can then use the existing system to add text and menu overlays.
Thanks
Sporty Dave, a suggestion, unless I have misunderstood,
have you set your static front page to ‘Your latest posts’ which is an option in the theme/customize/static front page settings.
I understand you need that for the widgets to appear on your home page.
Yes, The drop down menu simplifies the mobile screen view a lot. So Im not sure how to do that.
Also I have white font on white background. For some reason my install has a white background to the menu area as it stands right now without it being a drop down. This can also be seen as a white bar above the menu options in the full screen view version.
Here is my mobile device version as it stands right now. the white block in the middle has text that you can click but you cant see it until you touch where you think the text would be on the screen.
Is there a way to convert the menu into a drop down when the top page is viewed via smaller screens? I’ve seen this on some themes.
Ive also got white font on white background specifically for the menu area for some reason. Trying to fix that now but nothing comes to mind yet.
Excellent. Thank you.
Thank you Wes, I am trying various ideas to get the best fit so what you will see at: http://test.melodypods.com/ may not be the best option. The last thing I did was to try to replicate your demo with a narrow menu bar with a small site name to the left with the main image below it tight with no spacing so this doesnt use the logo but if that is a better way because it enables text to float above the image that would be even better.
Image will require improving since it is too small for laptop screens right now. Is there an optimum size?
Thanks
Me too. I am after:
1) a simple install of a background image to the top of my website with the standard title and tag line can be added in the foreground, plus
2) is responsive to device screen size
A perfect example is at: http://www.pubble.co
Epik is almost there but this last bit for some reason seems to need a coder.
Can anyone advise please?
Thank you Kronos. I am used to a system where the widgets are used for a universal layout of a wordpress site but with the epik theme what i see in the widget area is only the option to add widgets to the home page so I’ve got confused.
I’ve read a bit about templates but maybe I am still missing some fundamentals. I was thinking if the homepage is a template, surely in the appearenece / widgets area there would be a way to add widgets to other templates.
Is that not possible?
Thank you.
Thanks Wes, yes so that is categories of posts only and not categories of pages as well?
Ive been knocking around with this for a while now and actually think the best solution is to use the menus with sub pages that drop down. I have an existing structure to my site and am developing the Epik theme to fit on a test site before going live. THis was one of the main issues in converting my site with a lot as many as four pages with groups of sub pages to organise.
So fingers crossed, I have given up with the epik portfolio, portfolio plugins and basic html (because of the issues with responsiveness). A menu system is the most sensible for me for now I think. Hope that helps.
Thank you Wes. I am looking through the detail now. It looks like I can only have one portfolio page?
I was hoping to set up about four different portfolios linking to different sets of pages. Is that possible?
Thanks
