After trying many different things in CSS, none of which worked, I came across this code:
http://sikwati.com/blog/highlight-parent-page/
This did exactly what I wanted.
@Wes, I always appreciate your feedback.
Ally was the perfect starting point for the site. Thanks for creating such a versatile theme.
Thanks for the feedback, Christian.
That’s what happens when you’re fortunate enough to work with a graphic designer.
I plan on listing the site in the showcase, once I fix a couple of other issues I’ve noticed.
Well, it turns out the loading error was connected to the logo not being displayed.
Inspecting the page source, I saw that the logo was pointing to a location on the development site.
I just reloaded the logo in the header and all was well.
I suspect the reason it was only an issue on my iMac and not my PC, iPad and iPhone is because I had used all those devices during testing and the image was in the cache.
This issue can be closed.
Hey, Wes. Thanks for the feedback.
Hi Eric
Thanks for the fast response.
Zooming in isn’t something I’d do, but I noticed the issue when others were viewing the site.
I notice the CSS in the SquareOne theme is pretty much the same, but the logo behaves itself!
Anyhow, I appreciate your time and feedback.
Andykev, thanks for your response.
Unfortunately, this isn’t what I want. This causes the menu item to be permanently highlighted.
I only want the menu item highlighted if the page or one of its child pages is active.
So, for example, ‘About’ is one of seven menu items. The About page is parent to six pages; one of the six pages is ‘Our Company Values’. The six pages are not in a sub-menu.
If I’m on the Our Company Values page, I want the About menu item to be highlighted.
Is this possible and, if so, how do I do it?
Hi kronos.
I can’t link to the site because it’s on a private development server. I hope this is a better explanation of what I want:
The header-right menu has seven menu items.
One of the menu items is ‘About’. It doesn’t have a sub-menu. This menu item opens the About page.
The About page links to six other pages. The About page is the parent page to all six pages.
If I’m on one of the six pages, I want the About menu item to be highlighted in the menu.
Is this possible? If so, how do I do it?
Wes, I managed to do this using the Better Search plugin. I wanted better search functionality and this plugin allows the search results to be customised.
Many thanks, Wes.
It works perfectly.
Thanks, Wes.
I’ve made all the other customisations, so I’m ready.
Would I need to pay for that?
It’s only a nice-to-have.
Great!
Thanks for the quick response, Wes.
Hi Wes
I deleted everything except
// Remove standard loop
remove_action('genesis_loop', 'genesis_do_loop');
and it worked!
Thanks for your time. It’s much appreciated.
Hi Wes, thanks for the speedy response.
I want to be able to use the widegetised home page, I just don’t want the portfolio portion of it. At present, while I’m setting it up (using InstantWP), no posts are showing but the next page link is. So I guess posts are being detected even though not displaying. I still get the next page link when I set the number of posts to show as ‘0’.
I resolved this.
I’m using the Genesis Layout Extras plugin which was also upgraded. I needed to change a setting in there.
Oh, now I understand.
Eric, thank you. It worked.
I just added ‘button’ to the class, and still nothing.
By the way, I added class to the button on the home page. The link code in my previous post was for a different page.
Hi Eric,
Thanks for the quick response.
I’ve added the class to the link:
<a href="/contact/"><input type="button" class="medium blue" value="Contact Mark Scott"></a>
Both classes have text-decoration: none.
But the underline is still there.
I have thought of a work around. I was planning to change the underline on hover to use a border-bottom instead, as well as changing the link to the regular text colour. That would mask it on the button.
BTW, thanks for the feedback on the site. I’m very happy with it … and I love Ally.
Eric, thank you.
I used the #slider-wrap.
It worked perfectly.
Oh, I found it in the CSS.
