Works for fine for me. Do you have a link?
I think Wes is almost done with the Ally update if you didn’t already know.
I’ve been meaning to check this plugin out. Is it that much different than everything else that’s out there?
I may have to give it a try if you think it’s worth it, or better than the Genesis Slider.
From looking at the way everything loads I’m willing to bet it’s something going on with the slider. Hopefully the support person/team can figure it out.
If you can, keep us updated on what they say in case someone else runs across the same issue.
This has nothing to do with the theme, it’s the slider that is loading slowly. There aren’t any scripts that run on the adapt theme’s homepage. The issue is just with the slider itself. You would need to contact the developer of the plugin for support.
Do you have a link so I can see what’s going on?
Take a look at the UberMenu plugin and see if they offer something like that. I’m not 100% sure if they do, but I know it’s one of the best menu plugins out there with plenty of options.
You’ll probably need to remove the viewport code in your functions file as well. That’s also what initiates the responsive code I believe.
Look for this in your stylesheet –
.ally-light .thread-alt,
.thread-even {
background-color: #fff;
}
That is the code it’s referencing for some reason, so if you change that it will change the color.
We would actually need a link to see what the issue is. There could be a conflict somewhere else on your site, so posting the code here won’t really be enough to know.
So if you have a link please post and I’d be happy to help you out if I can.
Not sure what you did, but that doesn’t happen on my end. However, with all Genesis Themes (or any theme) the footer is the last div so of course if there is nothing pushing it down it will show up in the middle or wherever there is no content….which is normal. I don’t think there are too many ways to get it to stay all the way down without affecting other parts of the site.
I’m guessing you’re on a big screen of some sort? It shows up perfectly for me, but I’m on a laptop.
Sounds good! You’re Welcome
Not quite understanding what you’re asking. Are you asking how to make a section “fixed”? If so, just add position:fixed
to whichever div you want to stay in position.
This wouldn’t be a child theme issue. 403 errors have to do with your host/server. So you would need to contact your host so they can fix this. It could have to do with the permissions settings.
It could be because you don’t have any actual images on the page (I do see a video though)…..But I’m not really sure how it all works though. It really just depends on what those social sites look for when creating a thumbnail/image.
I was going to mention adding a featured image, but I’m not sure what good that would do since it probably won’t be visible to those sites when linking directly.
Anyone else out there know how to do this?
Your link doesn’t appear to be an appfinite theme, it looks like the Metro theme. Is that the right link?
The theme colors are always near the bottom right before the responsive section of the css…..but you’ll need to do a little bit more than that to create another color scheme. You can Google how to do this and a lot of tutorials should show up. Here are a few –
http://www.briangardner.com/code/create-color-style-options/
http://www.wilwebs.com/2013/02/how-to-add-color-schemes-to-a-genesis-child-theme/
It’s actually not my theme, I’m just a member of the forum. I have no idea what plugin they are using.
Nothing is showing because there is no content inside any of the widgets you’re using. If you take a look at your code you’ll see there are only divs, but no content. So you have to add something in order for it to show.
Take a look in your Genesis Theme Settings page near the top.
Not sure how to help as this isn’t an issue caused by the child theme.
Have you tried doing a Google search for other people who have had similar issues as you?
The site you linked to isn’t an appfinite theme. StudioPress has a support forum for their themes here – http://www.studiopress.com/forums/ …you may already know this, but I’m just posting just in case.
To answer your question, Yes this can all be done on any Genesis theme, but you’ll need to be familiar with css and how to make customizations to it.
Glad I could help!
You’re welcome 馃檪 Yes it must be a server issue.
That’s weird, I’ve never ran across an issue like this. If you temporarily switch to another theme what happens? Try switching to another Genesis theme first, then try switching to Genesis itself, then try a completely different theme (non Genesis theme) and see if anything changes.
Sounds like you just need to create a widget area to show up on pages other than the homepage. I googled and came across a few tutorials that explain how to do this (which will save us a lot of time)……Check this one out by Carrie Dils – http://www.carriedils.com/add-widget-area-below-nav/
Look for this in your css around line 698 –
#header .widget-area {
overflow: hidden;
width: 65%;
}
Decrease the width, it’s your widget area that contains the icons. Thats why its dropping off to the side, because the title/logo area and the header widget area is too wide and exceeds 100%. So you have to make both of those equal or less than 100% and it will work fine.
It looks like they’re using a regular menu to add that, but I’m not sure. It doesn’t show what makes it change from login to logout when they are signed in or not just from looking at the code…..So that’s something you would probably have to ask Copyblogger to see exactly what they’re using.
It could be anything really…..I have no idea what all you’ve done or didn’t do. Have you followed the instructions step by step?
If you Google – “How to setup the Genesis Responsive Slider” you’ll see a lot more tutorials. Here is a video – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j4e7UG1LzLk
After you take a look at the video and follow those instructions it should help you figure out which step is missing.
Try removing the float: left on line 1041 in the style.css file –
.genesis-nav-menu li {
display: inline-block;
float: left;
list-style-type: none;
text-align: left;
}
I just tested it on your site, and once that’s done, it centers for me.
You’ll have to do a bit more than that in order for the nav items/links to center. Since you can’t really center items that float, you’ll have to change them to either display: inline-block or something.
If you can post a link we can see exactly what needs to be done.
No you’re right, Appfinite has the same license as StudioPress, so you can use it on any client site you want.
Unfortunately I’m not sure you can with this particular plugin. StudioPress set it up for the images to float left in their code….I’ve never seen anyone be able to get it to center.
The only thing I can recommend is to create a 960px width image but have the image in the center of it….which would still give the same look you’re going for.
Unfortunately the css stylesheet won’t be enough, we would need to see an actual live link of everything in action in order to figure out the issue.
You’re Welcome
You can also use a plugin called Regenerate Thumbnails to adjust your images to fit within the slider better.
I’m sorry Barbara but I think you may be misunderstanding what I’m trying to explain. Please keep in mind, I’m trying to help you here 馃檪
There are no issues that need to be fixed in this situation, everything is working fine as it’s supposed to be. The way mobile responsive design works is the code/content and images are supposed to adjust with the browser. As the browser gets narrow the images and content stack on top of each other instead of being side to side….since there isn’t enough space to show all of this. As I mentioned before, you can easily change this if you want….This is the way most people (including StudioPress/Genesis) set up their content and images to respond.
Again, everything is working fine as it should so there’s no reason for Wes to post any code snippets to fix anything, since there’s no actual issue to fix. However, if you want to make a customization to have it appear differently, you can. Just ask.
Also keep in mind, that the iphone simulator you’re using is not the same as using an actual mobile browser….they both render totally differently. I’m looking at your site from an actual iPhone and it behaves exactly in the way that its supposed to. In other words: It works.
Hope this helps.
They’re not supposed to be horizontal when viewed in portrait mode. They are supposed to be vertical because the space is too narrow and small to display three widgets horizontally. Does that make sense?
When you turn your phone to the side in landscape mode, then it adjusts horizontally since there is more space. That’s the way its designed to be, and the preferred way of viewing content in such a small space.
You can adjust this if you still want to show all 3 horizontally instead of vertical and you can do so by editing the code in the responsive section for the iPhone.
You’re Welcome
Take a look at this comment – https://appfinite.com/topic/how-to-add-images-to-the-slider/#post-5434 (just this comment, not the others) and then come back and tell me if that was helpful.
You should be uploading “Featured Images” to the pages that you want the images to show up in the slider.
Also, here is a video I just found – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZJ29XTzSU14
Hello Barbara,
Please take a look here first – https://appfinite.com/topic/forum-rules/ They have a “One Question Per Thread” policy. It makes the forum more organized when searching for particular topics…..and it also makes it easier for other forum members to read and respond (people may skip over long posts).
We can handle the first question here –
I’ve taken a look at your site, but I’m not seeing an issue with the widgets. Everything is showing up the way it’s supposed to for me. I’m using an iPhone 5, and I viewed your site in portrait and landscape mode.
Thats just the way Genesis (the framework) is setup. So I don’t think there is any other way to do it. You could probably just include the description in your actual logo…..other than that I have no idea.
The Epik theme wouldn’t have anything to do with that since its just a child theme. There is nothing within the theme that would affect that. You may have another issue with your WP install.
You’re Welcome Sabrina!
I’m guessing you both haven’t looked at the tutorials and documentation that Wes created? He went a few steps ahead of the average Genesis developer and created the exact code from the demo and added the tutorial and documentation on how to use it. This can be found here – https://appfinite.com/forum/epik-theme-support/ at the top of the Epik Forum. It’s the highlighted sticky posts at the very top. That shows you exactly how to do everything featured in the demo. He also created a few General tutorials in the Tutorials section in the menu above – https://appfinite.com/tutorials/
Here’s a post where others are talking about it (if you’re bored and want to read) – https://plus.google.com/u/2/112717356760836886583/posts/V8fgv82UYZo As you can see it is much appreciated….it even helped me and I’m still new to all of this 馃檪
For the demo/zip thing that you asked about……there isn’t an easy way to do that just yet, and that’s due to the Genesis Framework (not the child theme). The only thing StudioPress/Genesis has are XML files, but they only add demo posts/pages/categories/content…..but not the widget content. If you look in your theme files, you’ll see the XML file. Use that to upload all of the content pages/posts etc that you mentioned. This is actually a WordPress Import feature. Currently I haven’t seen any way to export/import widget content from Genesis themes (other than Backupbuddy). There could be some plugins that will do it, but I haven’t seen it just yet. Most people prefer to start with a blank theme so they can add the content they want rather than spending a lot of time removing all of the things they don’t need. But if you’re trying to learn how to do what Wes did in the demo, you can get the exact code from the links above, and that should be more than enough to get you going.
Hope this helps.
Add a title to your site (on the General Page) but check the box to have it not show up in the header upload settings page.
The slider is setup to show Featured Images only…..images added in the post won’t show up in the slider.
The Genesis Theme Settings page has nothing to do with the actual slider…..you would actually need to adjust the settings on the Genesis Slider Settings page. In your WP admin – Genesis > Slider Settings ….then you can choose post or page, and you can add in the ID’s of whatever post or pages you want to add.
Here is a tutorial (basic) for setting it up – https://appfinite.com/tutorials/how-to-add-the-genesis-responsive-slider/
It is plug and play, I’ve never had any issues with it….and I’m new to Genesis myself. You literally just plug in your content and it shows up in the widgets, slider, etc…..thats how all child themes work.
First, make sure you are using the correct plugin – Genesis Responsive Slider – http://wordpress.org/plugins/genesis-responsive-slider/
The option to “not have it linked” is there, you have to actually look in the Slider Settings page. Here is what it looks like – http://i.imgur.com/OTRMMpI.png
You’ll still have to use a post or page….so just create a page and add your image. If you don’t want it to link to the post or page, they should have a setting at the bottom of the Slider Settings page that will let you turn it off.
You’re Welcome
You can look in your css file for this –
.sidebar {
width: 30.555555555%;
}
…and change that to whatever size you want.
Depending on which page you want to edit for the content, you can change them by looking under here –
/* 04b - 1152px CSS Grid ----------- */
you can play around with the percentages like 29%, 28%, 25%, etc until you get it to the size you want….same thing for the content.
You shouldn’t have to adjust anything in your responsive section since its already setup to adjust when activated.
