I have seen several other threads on here regarding the slider, but no real resolution as of yet. I see that the theme recommendations are the Genesis Responsive Slider, which frankly I despise because it is so limited, and you cannot center the images. Even setting it to full-width on the site I’m building, the image is still off-centered (to the left). I would like to accomplish the same thing mentioned in this thread: https://appfinite.com/topic/big-huge-single-full-width-image-on-epik-home-page-instead-of-slider/ Except without the locked text – my slider images will contain their own text. And they should be clickable, to either a page or post. Is there a better plugin? Or is there a way to hard code the slider in to this theme, and still keep the mobile responsive aspects? Thanks.
If you’re images are large enough, or if you can make them large enough they can definitely be centered. I’m pretty confident I can help you do this with the Genesis Slider unless you would rather not use it due to it’s limitations. If you don’t want to use it, and you’re looking for something with more options/layers and everything you need to do what you’re referring to (text on top of a background) you should try something like the Layer Slider in this theme – http://demo.appfinite.net/ally/ …Do you like that slider? Of course you don’t have to add in all of the fancy sliding features that I have, you can still just have it show a basic slide with a background image and text on top if you want. Just let me know
Thanks for the reply, Wes. I do like the slider used in Ally as well, but it is still not the full width look I’m going for. My client would like to emulate the design/function of this site: http://southlandchristian.org, with the slider going behind the header and widget areas. I’ve even tried the Soliloquy slider as recommended in another thread: https://appfinite.com/topic/big-huge-single-full-width-image-on-epik-home-page-instead-of-slider/#post-8138, and still end up with an off-centered slider image. What size image would you recommend, as I have tried several already? I’m certainly open to suggestions here.
One major drawback to Genesis Slider is that it has to link to either pages or posts. There will be some instances where I’d like to use a mixture of both, and have not been successful with this in the past.
Thanks for the assistance.
Maybe the Layer Slider can offer what you want. It seems to have a lot of options.
When it comes to Genesis Responsive Slider it will need full width images in some themes 1140 pixels in others 1152, but there will always be an “empty” area around it.
It would be nice to hear how the full background images were achieved, if you will sort it out.

CharlieL
Thanks for the slider recommendation. Before I purchase it, does anyone have experience using the Layer Slider with Epik or a similar theme? I agree that Genesis Slider will always have the empty space around it, so I am certainly open to suggestions here.
Any input on how to position the slider behind the header and the featured widgets below?
Thanks.
The Layer Slider is the slider I was referring to in my Ally theme 馃槈 Lot’s of people have used it and love it, so I’d say it works pretty good.
I know you want to use full width background images with text on top, and this is perfect for that. I didn’t do it in the Ally theme demo, but you can easily do it with this plugin. I haven’t really used any other plugins that do this.
Love the Layered Slider very much! Definitely solved the issues with full-width images. Any ideas now how to give the appearance of the slider images fading behind the featured widget areas? 馃檪 Thank you!
Check out their docs. They created a lot of documentation that covers how to do different effects and transitions. You can access this from the help link at the top of the layer slider settings. You can also look at their site for examples of what all you can do with the plugin – http://kreaturamedia.com/layerslider-responsive-wordpress-slider-plugin/
I’ve never had any issues with the plugin myself, but if you ever run into any issues or if you have specific questions about the slider you can check out the author support forum if you need any assistance – http://support.kreaturamedia.com/faq/.
Thanks so much for your help!
You’re Welcome!
