      Hi,

      Two questions here:

1 – How do I check the theme version I have?
2 – How do I upgrade to the newest version?

      Thanks.

You can open up your style.css file and check the version near the very top of the file.

To upgrade, first download the latest version from your account – https://appfinite.com/my-account …Then delete the old version and upload the new version. Doing this of course will overwrite any changes/customizations you’ve made to your old theme files, so make sure and backup everything first. Also make sure you have the latest version of Genesis installed.

          Hi Wes,

1 – How would I know otherwise if my theme is out of date? I bet most people out there won’t know.

2 – That’s a HORRIBLE option to upgrade, if all customizations will be loss the trouble is immense, and those steps are not helpful at all. I (probably like a lot of users) would need and appreciate step by step instructions, not just general “here is the minimum answer to your question” response.

How do I get a refund? The trouble of your themes are not worth it and I will just stick with StudioPress created themes.

@edwardor You do realize that the upgrade process is the exact same with StudioPress themes as well, right? All Genesis child themes have to be upgraded this way. The only thing that upgrades automatically is the Genesis Framework. This is where you seem to be confused. If you use a child theme and make changes to it, you have to either copy those changes over to the new version or start from scratch (and add it in). You may want to take a look at how WordPress Child Themes actually work to clear up your misunderstanding – http://codex.wordpress.org/Child_Themes Start here, because you’ll need to know this regardless of whatever theme you use. This is basic WordPress info.

Some people create a custom css file to add all of their changes in so they can upgrade the Child theme with no problem. Again, this is how ALL CHILD THEMES work. No reason to blame Appfinite or anyone else because of you’re misunderstanding of how WordPress works. They build their themes in the exact same manner as SP does, and if they didn’t I wouldn’t have used so many of their themes. Neither would any of the other thousands of people who have used their themes and had no trouble creating their sites.

There is a search box that you can use on the forum, the questions you’re asking are pretty basic and already covered in the forum. There is also the WordPress Codex, and Google. Again, don’t blame someone else because you don’t like the process of how WordPress works, it’s not their fault, they’re just following the rules (as you should too). It’s not anyone else’s responsibility to teach you how WordPress works, no one here created WordPress. If you want to learn the BASICS of how WP works, then you should head over to WordPress. It’s like blaming the Angry Birds iPhone app developers because you can’t understand how your iPhone works. Don’t blame a 3rd party developer for something that is out of their control and has nothing to do with them.

@eric The same type of people are in – http://wordpress.org/support/ all day. It sucks when noobies show up on forums complaining because they’re too lazy to do a simple search when the answer is right there in front of them.

I tell these people all the time, “if you want someone to hold your hand throughout the entire process, then HIRE someone to do the work for you if you’re too lazy to do it yourself”.

WordPress is filled with documentation that explains everything you need to know. I’ve been using it since 2007 and have found nearly every answer to every problem by simply searching the forums or the codex. It’s that simple, but some people will still try and find something to complain about no matter how much you help them. It’s pathetic.

Sorry if I came across rude/jumpy. Anyway, I will take your suggestions thank you, although I do remember updating themes (maybe they were WordPress default themes) via 1 click.
