How to insert a custom logo / header and overhang upward

I’m trying to insert a custom logo or header in epik. I know how to insert a header, but displaying it properly is the issue.

My site (mikemetcalfe.co) is setup as follows:

top: genesis before header widget (using custom menu with social icons)
under: header (with Appearance > Customise > Site title, displaying text name logo) and primary navigation

I’d like to place a logo so it sits above the name text, but I think that means getting the custom header in the header section, to overhang upwards into the genesis before header section. Anyone know how to achieve that?

Forgive me if I’m confused, but are you saying you want to keep the text that is currently your logo, and add an additional logo on top of that inside the white area all the way to the left of the social links?
