My recent addition of Optimal added (of course) ‘Home Feature Sidebar” (currently setup to the left of content). However, the ‘Primary’ and ‘Secondary’ sidebars from the base Genesis Framework were also still there. I went in and Unregistered the Alt-sidebar, but I was thinking I wanted to keep Primary. Is there any reason I can’t do so?

Just a note, although they’re still new to me, the more I dig into your themes, the more I like what I find.

Thanks for putting out great stuff.

The primary and secondary sidebars shouldn’t show up on the homepage. If they are, you may need to add content into your home widgets. If that isn’t it, then check to see if you have a plugin conflict that is adding it there.

That’s interesting, because they are absolutely there. I do have some content in every ‘home’ widget, so that’s not it. I have a gazillion plugins on this sandbox, so that might be it. But more importantly, I was really just wondering if there was a conflict in keeping them (Primary only, I unregistered Secondary).

If I change the theme width as I’m contemplating, I could make it work. I just want to make sure there is no inherent conflict with the theme/widget structure of the child theme before I proceed.

          Thank you.

Someone had the same issue in the past and it was because they had a plugin running that forced the sidebars on the homepage when it wasn’t supposed to. Thats most likely what it is since there isn’t anything that references those sidebars in the home.php file.

              Aha. Found it.

For future reference, the plugin Genesis Layout Extras has a setting which allows you to override the Default layout and force a content/sidebar EVEN if the sidebar is Unregistered in the child theme.

Options are to either deactivate the plugin or reset to the default genesis layout for the home page, which will then render without the primary sidebar for this theme.

Only thing left unanswered is COULD I leave that Genesis Primary sidebar on the home page, if I were to increase the theme width, and still have it work in a responsive environment?

              Thanks.

Yes you can, it would simply be a matter of styling it with the responsive css.

Hmm. OK, I know enough about basic css to be dangerous, 馃檪 but I know nothing about responsive css. I’m not sure I’d know where to start? I guess I’ll await your theme mods and then regroup on this issue.

                  Thanks!
