Permalink (postname) not working

Hi,

This is a general question and probably without much bearing on the actual theme itself. When I change the permalink setting to postname it forces the pages to display a 404 error.

It’s only when I revert back to the default permalink setting that the page links actually work.

Has anyone else come across this issue before?
