I am trying to recreate the Epik demo home page so that I can then modify it for my site. On this forum, there is code to put in the “Pricing Plan” table and such, but what is lacking are clear instructions for beginners like me on where to put this code. For example, here is a quote from the tutorial/instructions:

“If you take a look at the Epik demo near the bottom of the homepage you’ll see “Plans”. The css for this is already setup in your theme, the only thing you would need to do is add the html into your widget.”

What widget? I cannot find an Epik widget included with the Epik theme. I don’t know where to add the html you guys provided.

Similarly, in your forum post titled: “How to Add Left and Right Content for the Epik Theme Widgets” you provide some code to add an image and some text, but I don’t know where to insert the code.

If you could provide instructions on where to insert the code you provided for the “Plans” module and the “Left and Right Content” code, that would be extremely helpful.

As stated in the tutorials, you would place those inside any of your widget or content areas. The Epik theme has a lot of widgets areas, so you may want to double check your widget page, because they should definitely be there.

Thank you for your reply. I think there might be something wrong with my epik widgets. Unlike other widgets, where I can input information and click save, every one of the epik widgets has no space for me to input information and shows no “save” button. Instead, when I click on an epik widget (or the down arrow to display more info) all it shows is a text description of the particular widget (and, again, no save button). Please advise if this sounds like an error in the epik theme download or not and how I should proceed. Thanks again.

I’m pretty sure it’s not the theme causing the issue….since it’s just a child theme and there isn’t any code inside of it that would affect that particular part. Do you have any other plugins that you are using that could somehow be preventing your widgets from showing up? They are supposed to show up normally just like any other widget of any other theme.

Make sure you have the latest WordPress, and the latest Genesis as well. If none of that fixes it, can you please post a screenshot so I can see what you’re seeing? ……and if that doesn’t work, you’ll probably need someone to login to your site to figure out whats going on. I’m pretty sure it’s something external since there are a lot of people using this theme that haven’t had that issue (including myself)

I think the answer is crazy easy and you’ll do a head slap when I tell you.

Drag a text widget to the appropriate widget location and paste the text into it.

              Job done, right?

                Terence,

Yes, that is exactly the solution. I didn’t do a head slap, though. I have looked at a ton of Studiopress tutorials/posts as well as Epik tutorials and forum entries and never seen this step mentioned. Maybe it is buried somewhere.

As I had quoted, directly from an Epik tutorial, the tutorial states, “the only thing you would need to do is add the html into your widget.” Those instructions are incorrect. If you load Genesis, load Epik, and the very next thing you try to do is “add html into your widget” it won’t work. They miss a critical step (the step that you didn’t miss!). You cannot add html into any of the epik widgets…like you mentioned, you must first drag a text widget atop the Epik widget.

Thanks for the help and the perfecto solution!

I bet you never read this then ~ http://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Widgets.

Its just one of those simple things that people take for granted ~ that you already know to add a text widget to a widget location ~ or some other kind of widget ~ in order to use it.

                  Glad I could help.

Sorry, I assumed everyone knew how to add a text widget….that would be considered WordPress basics, which has nothing to do with Epik or Genesis. As @Terence mentioned, I’d highly recommend you get familiar with the way WordPress works before continuing, because it’s not really Appfinite or any other theme developers job to explain or cover the basics when they are already covered on the WordPress site itself. Since you have to download WordPress before you use a theme, we assume that you understand how it works since the documentation is on their site.

So definitely take a look at the codex….you may even want to try out something like WP101.com as I’ve heard it is very helpful.

Thanks for the help and the links @Terence

For anyone following this thread and needing some basic help to get started the right way, here’s a really great resource I just stumbled on the other day ~ Download the Genesis Guide for Absolute Beginners (Free PDF). Its well worth reading.
