I can’t seem to make the slider work the way I want it to. 1. it is cutting off the height. It seems to be enlarging my image. I have tried 1140 x 400 setting and an image size to match. It cuts most of my image off on the vertical dimension. I changed the setting to 600 and that finally got my entire 400px tall image in there but it is not 400px tall, it’s much taller.
Once I got it to show full image (although way too big, I get white from background color top and bottom. I’m not able to figure out how to get rid of whatever margin or padding is there. I changed the background color to match my image and it looks cleaner but now we are 800px worth of slider, way too much. I have loaded images of every height and proportion I can think of. Please explain how this works and how to fix it.

      site is http://sidotiwork.com/

      thanks,
      Scott

Anytime you change your slider thumbnail size (or any thumbnail size) run this plugin – Regenerate Thumbnails and it should adjust all your images to fit properly.

If it doesn’t just let me know so I can take a closer look.

No this didn’t work. I can send you screen shots. I tried changing size of my image and it always crops it, and if I go very small, like 200px tall it just enlarges it back up and the quality is horrible. I optimized this image at the highest quality setting in PS, it should look very good. Plus I get white gaps (background color) between header, slider, and next section, Welcome wide or whatever. There’s no reason that by default that should happen. I’m trying to find the CSS to fix it but it’s not working. I am frustrated with this theme honestly. It should work to set a slider size to 1140 x 400 and an image to 1140 x 400 and it should fit fine with no gaps. That’s what a theme should do vs custom design. It seems like this theme needs custom work for just a basic set up. I have another site using Epik that took forever to it get looking even close to decent and I’m still not happy, went back to the old theme for now on that site until I figure out Epik or find a new one. In addition, why is my menu, just 2 items under the logo in the header instead of in the space to the right? I’m close to abandoning this theme honestly unless you can explain what I am doing wrong.

          thanks,
          Scott

I’ve personally never ran into an issue like that. It’s worked perfectly fine every time I’ve used it – http://demo.appfinite.net/epik/

The Theme itself shouldn’t be causing the issue, since the Plugin is separate and works on it’s own. You can actually use any Slider Plugin you want if you don’t like the Genesis Slider.

I can instantly find out what the issue is if you can create a Temporary Login. If so, just make sure and check the box here in the forum that says “Set as private reply” and I’ll be more than happy to take a look.

Everything looks like it’s working. All I did was login and Run the Regenerate Thumbnails plugin I mentioned earlier. Here is how it looked before – http://i.imgur.com/CPbIE5Y.jpg

And here’s what it loos like after I Ran the Regenerate Thumbnails plugin – http://i.imgur.com/5wR6Hve.jpg

Since it would look better without the padding/margin space on top/bottom of the Slider, I went ahead and added a little bit of CSS to remove it. Some users prefer the space on top if they’re using a transparent background image (kind of like the demo) so that’s why it’s there by default.

Instead of editing your style.css file directly, I just added the customization inside your “Edit CSS” page to remove the extra space you didn’t need.

No it’s the same problem. This image has the character sitting at a desk. It’s cut off about 1/3 of the image from the bottom. It’s definitely enlarging the image. Look at it in the media library to see the full image at 400px tall. I had used that regenerate tool every time I made a change. It isn’t doing anything for this one.

Also I dont’ know how you got rid of the white band top and bottom but I’m glad you did. What did you do.

And the menu, why is it under the logo.

Quick question, are you planning on using just this 1 image? If so, then you definitely shouldn’t use the Genesis Slider to do this, as all you would need to do is add it inside a text widget, or as a background image through CSS. Plus the less plugin/script activity you have going on in the background, the faster your site will load.

If you are planning to show multiple images using the slider then it can still be done, I just wanted to make sure I know exactly what you’re trying to do before going forward.

I just noticed another issue with the Plugin. Give me a sec and let me see if there’s a quick solution.

                                  Hey Wes,
I was out all day, just getting back. It looks really good. It’s way bigger (640px tall) but actually I like that. But I think I understand the problem. It’s set to 100% wide so it’s enlarging it proportionally. I still like the big size so I’ll keep it for now.

                                  thanks for your help,
                                  Scott
