Hey Eric … how ya doin’?!
I’ve got my custom template all figured out; it’s lookin’ pretty good!
Now I just want to dial in the style of the widgets on this template.

I’m a little concerned about inheritance within the Cascade. But I also understand that specificity trumps inheritance in css. So I’m wondering if I should just ignore the css you folks have already set up throughout the theme, just create my own classes and ids, and style them.
Or, should I try to figure out the overall theme cascade, and try to set up css that will ‘fit’ in with the other widget styles you’ve set up?
Bottom line – I’m guessing that doing my own css for my widgets is not a problem, but maybe not the ‘best possible’ way to do it?
Thanks for any thoughts you may have on this.

Oh, and it goes without saying, but i’m defining all my styles within Wes’ style.css for Epik.

Yes it’s best to just create your own css styles if you’re adding your own code. Then updates won’t affect it.

On that same note, should I be writing my styles in a separate file and including them into style.css to prevent an overwrite on update?

Either way will work fine. Just keep it in a custom section at the bottom of your stylesheet….or link to a different file.
