I have the Widget Importer plugin installed on WordPress but when I go to download the demo .wie file it coverts it to a .txt file and won’t upload into WordPress. Can you assist me with uploading this file? I’m assuming my system is doing this because I don’t have the program to run the .wie file….not sure?

You’re the 2nd person I’ve seen have that issue. I helped another person get it working by logging into their site and uploading it. It worked instantly, but I never knew what happened on their end.

I usually just download from the same link, then immediately upload it to WordPress using the importer.

Are you opening the file itself? If so, that could be the issue, if not, then maybe it could be your system converting it somehow.

BTW, what operating system are you using? I’m using a Mac to handle everything.

I am using Mac OS X. When I download it from the link you provided it immediately opens up into a .txt file. So I decided not to open it and attempted to just upload it but noticed that it was converted into a .txt file anyway. Bizarre!

I have no idea why that’s happening. I’ve seen plenty of other users able to download/upload with no problem, so i’m wondering what it could be.

Are you able to change the file extension to .wie? Let’s see if that works.

If that doesn’t work, I can login and upload it for you if you want.

EDIT: Also, what browser are you using? I’m using Chrome, so it allows me to download files without them immediately opening. That could be what’s happening on your end if your browser automatically tries to open the file. If there is no program/software on your system to open the file, then it’s probably converting it to a .txt file so it can be opened and viewed (that’s my theory). I have software/applications that can open and edit these types of files, so everything works fine for me.

                    Just got it done!

You’ll need to download the eNews plugin if you want to use that for the 2nd widget area (sign up form) – https://wordpress.org/plugins/genesis-enews-extended/

And then I’m using this plugin for featured posts at the very bottom – https://github.com/calliaweb/featured-custom-post-type-widget-for-genesis
