      Hi,

I used widgets to create my home page so it doesn’t appear in the list of pages. I can’t figure out what the ID is. Can someone tell me how I can find it?

      Thanks.

Which “ID’s” are you referring to exactly?

          Do you mean the page.id?

          <body class=”page page-id-1793 page-template-default ……..”

Or do you mean the page you created does not appear in your admin panel?

I think the front-page.php and home.php do not have page id’s., and do not show in the admin panel.
Removing your widgets from all the areas on the template will revert your page to the default which is recent posts.

I’m referring to the WordPress post IDs that are assigned to every page and post. It’s post=1534 in this URL – http://www.digitalmarketingdeva.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=1534&action=edit

My home page doesn’t appear in my admin panel.

I removed all widgets and the home page did revert to recent posts but I still can’t find the ID.

            Thanks for your help!

I agree with Andy, I don’t think the Home Template has an ID in this situation since it is automatically created with the theme by default as a TEMPLATE File. You don’t have to create a Post or Page for a Template file, so there is no ID created.

What exactly are you trying to do? What did you need an ID for exactly? Maybe that can help us answer your question a little better.

Ok. The “home” page does not show up in the Admin listing of your website pages. On my website, I do have a “home” page, but it is simply a blank page which I use to make the menu bar show a “HOME” link. The menu has a custom link to the website (URL).

You control the look of the “home page” with the widgets, and the Genesis theme does not have a “page-id” or “post-id” assigned to this template. It’s the page hierarchy.

If you wanted to use a static page, you create that (it will have a page-id) and use that for your home page. However you cannot use widgets on that page, but could use sidebars and place a widget in that area. The true “home page” does not have a page-id.

This may help show how specific pages in WordPress are identified:

@Jason M, I want to use a pop-up feedback form on a few pages. One of which is the home page. The plugin uses post IDs to identify where the pop-up will appear.

Mary, could you please let us know what plug-in you are using? Perhaps it’s a simple thing.

However, many plug-in’s with issues in any theme (here or elsewhere) might need to be addressed to the pluin author.

                      Rule #1
Please only post the issues that are caused by the theme you are using. If you are having issues with an external source that was not created by us (like a Plugin for example), then you will need to contact the Plugin author/developer or whoever created the code that is causing the issue.

                        Hi Andykev,

I deactivated all plugins and the home page still doesn’t show up in my list of pages. I really don’t think this is an issue with the plugin. The plugin is requesting a post id which is a common practice when you want to apply functions to specific posts and pages. I can find post ids for all other pages and posts whether or not I’m using the plugin.

The plugin is Acme Feedback http://wpunite.com/product/acme-feedback-plugin/

I am working with the plugin developer to find a work around. Here is his recent response.

“You’re using the Epik theme, and they use a home.php template. https://appfinite.com/tutorials/how-to-setup-the-home-and-blog-page/ So that explains why it’s not showing. There are a few ways to handle this. 1. Hardcode the ACME Feedback code to the home.php page 2. Exclude the other page ID’s 3. Create a custom ACME Feedback code hack for your particular install. Probably the best solution.”

I don’t want to exclude other page IDs because that’s just about every page and post on my website and I’ll have to keep adding IDs every time I create a new blog post.

I will probably have to create a custom code hack.

I really wish the theme developer could see the extra work involved. I’ll have to do this whenever I want to single out the home page.

“I really wish the theme developer could see the extra work involved. I鈥檒l have to do this whenever I want to single out the home page.”

This isn’t the Theme Developer’s Fault…..Did you mean, You wish the “PLUGIN DEVELOPER” would see the extra work involved? Because this doesn’t have anything to do with the “Theme” developer, Whether it’s Wes/Appfinite or StudioPress/Genesis or any other Theme developer…..It’s up to the Plugin Author to make their plugin work more Universal across the majority of Popular WordPress themes out there. Personally I would design Plugins based on the basics of WordPress rather than a specific theme. I’ve noticed a few dev’s do that, but in my opinion, making it work for the basic/default WordPress code is best. When Devs do it for their own, or very specific type of themes, then that means it won’t work with many of the other themes out there.

Also, just so you know 馃檪 there is no Theme developer that can create a Theme that works with each and every Plugin that exists on the WordPress repository……There are thousands and thousands of plugins out there and Not One Theme in the entire WordPress Collection could handle all the Plugins Perfectly. You Probably already know this, but I’m quite sure there is someone Else out there that may search for this type of issue, so I wanted to get this cleared up 馃檪

Even if you were using a totally different theme you would most likely still run into the same issue, which means the plugin is where the issue is coming from and needs to be adjusted…….(Not always, but in most cases thats the way it is).
