Thanks, that worked great!
Thanks, Andykev. We might actually check that out for our blog and podcast. We’re going a little smaller and less obvious on our business site (at my wife and business partner’s request) but I really do like the plugin.
I think my main goal right now is to try to figure out how to lower those two icons, or if there’s a better place to put them in the theme other than secondary nav.
Thanks!
Biagio
Thanks Wes. That solved all the spacing issues. One last question — now that I’ve looked at it on the iphone, it’s a little hard to get to them since they’re right above the hamburger. Is it possible to keep this same spacing but have them jump to the left hand side? I tried the code you gave me with “float left” instead, but it was the same issue with the big gap between them.
Thanks so much for your help!
Best,
Biagio
Hey Wes,
Thanks for helping out. Yeah, that old site was built by a web designer about 6 years ago, and it’s an outdated mess. Those old icons were a single image map, and the whole thing was custom HTML and CSS, and a weird mix of a plugin called “magic fields.”
We do like most of the overall look of the previous site, but I love Epik and am rebuilding the entire thing from scratch on your theme.
So everything I’m doing is “hacking” to kind of get it close. I had tried a few approaches (like adding the icons to the header area with simple hooks) but nothing seemed to be real close. Putting it in the secondary nav and styling it with icons was about as close as I was able to get without ripping everything apart.
If there’s a way to move it down a bit, even if I can’t get it perfectly where it was, I think I’d call it a day.
Any thoughts you have welcome, and thank you again. I’m a huge fan of your theme, and use it on two other sites (and that’s why I’m slogging my way through redoing our main company site on your framework — just love Epik!)
Best,
Biagio
Yep, that lead me to the write answer! Thanks!
Never mind — for anyone else who reads this, when I looked at the genesis markup guide I realized .site_container was what I was looking for. Thanks!
Thanks, Scooby. I’m going to try that.
This is the site in question:
http://producingunscripted.com
And this is the page speed results:
https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fproducingunscripted.com%2F&tab=mobile
I see what you’re saying that “hiding” it might not be enough to stop it from loading.
How would I just remove google fonts all together?
Also, I seem to remember reading that so many sites are serving Open Sans that browsers cache it anyway. Would that mean that dropping the Google loaded CSS all together would stop the problem, and that people who have it cached would still see Open Sans, and those who don’t would just fall back to the next one on the list?
Thanks,
Biagio
Thanks, that totally fixed it!
All the best,
Biagio
So sorry! Copied and pasted the wrong link. Thanks Eric for the heads up. Here’s the right one:

Thanks, Eric! I was under the impression that if I did that it would still show old comments, but I just tried it and indeed, it does the same thing the plugin I was using did, by removing all trace of comments.
Thanks!

Okay — I went back to the old style.css and found that, indeed, the style changed between versions. I was able to get the colors right, but I can’t figure out how to make the gravatar smaller. It seems like it’s being styled much bigger than last version, but I can’t seem to figure out where that line was in the old style.css

Okay, I’ve gone live with my new site but the author box is still wrong.
http://producingunscripted.com/023
I don’t recall every styling it to have a blackish bg with the white text. I notice in the current Epik demo that the author box appears to be white. Did this change in Epik 1.3? If it did, can you advise how to possibly change it back?
Thanks!
Biagio
Hey Wes,
Thanks. I want it to be like the original black version. I’m not sure what I did to break it 馃檪
Is there a setting I’m maybe missing? Or was this part of the code that changed with the HTML 5? I really like the way it looked before, but I’m not sure how I changed it.
Thanks,
Biagio
UPDATE — Okay, I got things layed out right, the only problems I’m still having are:
1. I can’t figure out how to target the img so that there is some padding around the images.
2. I can’t figure out how to target the post name so that I can make it bigger.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Best,
Biagio
Thanks, Eric! Appreciate it!

Thanks, Kronos! Will give it a shot. Appreciate the reply.

Scooby — thanks so much. Spent hours trying to get it right and gave up. Just how I want it now. Really appreciate it.
All the best,
Biagio
Thanks for looking Scooby. I just got it working a couple hours ago. I threw a couple divs at it (literally, I’m not great at CSS) and copied and pasted some code from different places in the code until it looked right. I’ll probably have some more questions but for the moment I think I fixed this one. Thanks for checking it out.
Best,
Biagio
Thanks, Kronos. I’ve managed to fix everything except for the quote underneath “Producing Unscripted” before the slider area.
Could someone lay a second set of eyes on it and see if I’m missing something obvious?

Thanks so much,

Thanks you — the css trick at the end fixed it.
Appreciate the help!

I think I’ve solved most of these, I’ll move on to another thread.
Also, I did a fresh wordpress install, only installing geneis, epik, and genesis simple hooks. The only thing I did was add three graphics in the welcome area as per the tutorial, but it looks like this:
http://accessdv.com/podcastsandbox/
Is this perhaps a bug in the theme?
Thanks,
Biagio
Now that I’ve added correctly sized photos to my Welcome Widget Area here per this post:
https://appfinite.com/topic/welcome-widget-code-for-the-epik-theme/
It’s clear that somehow my page is getting messed up, but I’m unable to figure out where. Any help much appreciated:

Thanks, Eric. I’m also on a Mac. If you take your browser and make the window a little smaller, it will all “snap” into place. I’m googling the priority thing now, but if you can take a peek with a smaller window and see if that gives you any isight that would mean the world.
Best,
Biagio
Great, Thanks Eric. That did the trick. One more question: is there any SEO penalty for doing that I need to be aware of?
Thanks,
Biagio
Thanks and sorry for the 2 questions, will break things up in the future.
Going to re-ask one now.
Best,
Biagio
