Hi Wes,
I, too, was looking at the widget spacing in my sidebar. I have only one sidebar configuration that appears on every Page including the Home/Video page. So, it seems that adjusting one…adjusts them all. If not, then what is your suggestion?
Thanx,
Tom
Wes,
From Iowa to Wyoming with the right solution.
Thanx so much,
Tom
Hi Eric,
“You probably didn’t remove it all.” – I did leave the Silver one in and that may have caused them to return. Today I carefully checked both Mobile sections and found nary a word re: Legacy Color Styles. So then I removed all colors including the Silver Style and after open/close the site, they’re gone. I did, for reference purposes, copy/paste the Silver into the Legacy Notebook I’m authoring re: all the changes…just in case. You never know!
Thanx,
Tom
Mornin’ Wes,
Worked perfectly.
Thanx,
Tom
Hey Wes,
By golly…it worked. ‘next pa ‘ became ‘next page’, Thanx for that.
Now that I can see it, I’d still like the font to be a darker grey…where can I locate the control for that font color?
note/I noticed when looking at the mobile responsive code that the Legacy Color Themes were back in the css. I thought that I’d removed them but apparently it was only momentary. All I did was select/delete. Maybe that’s not the way to delete css code?
Anyway Wes, you really do know your themes.
Thanx,
Tom
Hi Wes,
Well if you visit my site on a cellphone, at least on my iPhone, in the middle of each blog page as you’re scrolling thru, that’s where the transition from the Posts to the sidebar occurs, the ‘next page’ indicator appears cut-off on the right edge. As I mentioned, it’s light grey and might be missed by someone not expecting it to be there. I figure it’s not that much of a problem if I can darken the font so it stands out a bit more.
Frankly, I’m really pleased with Legacy and the mobile responsive design, and I’m ok to be flexible and work around these bits-n-pieces.
So here’s the site: tomjdolan.com
Thanx Wes,
Tom
HI Wes,
Removes ez enuf…but I did leave Silver in the css just in case…. just in case what, I don’t know. Anyway,
Thanx. As usual prompt & reliable.
Tom
Eric,
Great! I looked at that area for weeks and I thought it referred to the background not the text color…why? because when I input #333 into a Hex color chart, it always brings up #ffffff, white. So I never changed it. But you did point me to the solution, and it not only gave me the color change in the Archive page, but it corrected the appearance of the Comment/Question form at the page bottom. Great, Great, Great.
I know it’s a simple item, but it’s the little things that keep me at this keyboard all nite.
Thanx for your patience Eric,
Tom
Hello Eric,
Thanx, and although I don’t pretend to be a knowledgeable ‘coder’ I understand you when you say: “In other words, there isn’t anything in your css to point to for the archives because its not defined in your stylesheet. It references the default font in the body.”
So, can you point me to the location in the css stylesheet where the default font for Legacy can be changed for size and color.
Clearly, I want to get away from the Grey font color, it doesn’t suit my taste nor the image I want to project. If you can assist me in locating that point in the css stylesheet that allows me to achieve that one goal, we can close this support request.
Thanx for your time,
Tom Dolan
Morning from Tokyo Eric,
Well as I wrote in my original post: I’m using the Genesis Archive Widget in the Sidebar and then adding other Genesis Widgets into it to make the Archive Page, which I have named Site Map… this did work. It did produce the Archive and I have some control over it’s layout & appearance. But I don’t like the grey color of the Page font which I believe is coming from the Legacy css…I just can’t locate it. Can you point me to it?
Thanx
Tom
Hi Eric,
Well that brings me back to a question I have yet to resolve. When I look at the css code for Legacy, I see something like this for fonts: ‘Oswald’, ariel, helvetica, san serif. (maybe not exactly) This is listed at the top of the style sheet. So what I’ve tried to figure out, is how I work with that information.
In this case, Wes provided some code to change the font & color of the Sidebar widget text. It worked, but it didn’t affect the Archive widget which I’d like to change. More importantly, I’d like to choose the font, and it’s size, color for the site. The control seems to be global but I don’t see clearly where it is.
Can you point me in the right direction?
Thanx Eric,
Tom
Good Morning from a Bright Sunny-but-Cold Tokyo,
Well that code worked just fine.
Thanx Wes.
Hi Wes,
Well I’m not having any luck changing the Sidebar content font color. So I’ve copied the code as I have it now:
/* Primary / Secondary Sidebars
———————————————————— */
.sidebar {
display: inline;
float: right;
font-size: 0.875em;
color: #000000; <added the #color here
line-height: 1.5em;
width: 260px; < yesterday I narrowed the sidebar to create more space between the Post content and sidebar. This worked ok.
}
.sidebar .widgettitle { <I added here and it seemed to work ok, but I can’t be sure the ariel font selection worked, my feeling is it didn’t.
font: ariel !important;
font-size: 16px;
color: #000000;
}
So that’s what I’ve got so far and the font color remains grey. Suggestions please.
Thanx,
Tom
Hi Wes,
Actually the above code solved another small issue for me by changing the widget Title font & color. Thanx.
But I was looking for a way to change the color of the font within the widgets. I installed the Genesis widgetized Archive to build my Archive Page. The result is the Archive Page content is the same light grey as the sidebar widget content. I’d like to be able to darken both for better readability and I suspect one css. code controls the color of all sidebar widget content…although I could easily be mistaken. So,
How do I change the font color of the Sidebar widget content?
Thanx Wes,
Tom Dolan
HI Wes,
Thanx and they work well.
Tom
Thanx Wes,
I replaced background-image with background-color + #color, worked perfectly.
Thanx,
Tom
Mornin’ Wes,
Thanx for checking and advising me. Yes I submitted the request early in the day and then late last nite got some insight to a possible fix. It worked and we’re off and movin’ forward. Legacy is a really nice platform to work with.
Happy Day Wes,
Tom
Thanx Wes,
The code worked like a charm.
BTW, when I first read the forum rules, I thought you mentioned that we could close-out a request when it was completed but I don’t see a way to do that. I may have misread that point. But if it’s possible, let me know how and I will.
Again Thank you,
Tom
Hi Eric,
The code you provided worked well, especially on a cell phone.
Thank you,
Tom
Mornin’ Eric,
site: tomjdolan.com
thanx for checking this. Also, I see that Wes has used both em & px for Font size, so if I change a size , I assume I should use the same type of measurement.
Tom
Hey Wes,
Thanx for hand-holding me thru this debacle(to me anyway).
I’ll check-out some of the other codes you suggested too.
Happy Holidays,
Tom Dolan
Thanx Wes,
I’m off to to the Host and I’ll update you later.
Tom
…and I’ve just returned…SUCCESS!!! I HAVE A SITE AGAIN WES…..YEA!
I could access & edit in the cPanel so I deleted the block of code on the cPanel. You’re ‘the Man’ Wes!
OK now I’m gonna try that code once again, and to be sure, I just want to be sure of the correct placement in the .php code list. Should enter it directly after the 1st < ?php at the very top of the page or after ‘Start the engine’ and ‘Child theme’? just want to be certain…
Hopefully I’m not going to bother you again with this today.
Thanx for your attention and guidance,
Tom in a very grey, chilly Tokyo
Hello Wes,
I need to understand this advice so please bear with me. I rarely use ftp, so if I use filezilla “and look into the folders where my theme is located and delete or overwrite the functions.php file with one that doesn’t have the error.” am I looking into the File Manager in the cPanel at my Host? And if so, will I be able to locate the functions.php? If not cPanel, then where am I looking? I don’t understand how filezilla allows me to see the info you’re suggesting I look at & change….but I’m willing to go if I can.
You say you always edit from FTP, does that mean you edit up on the Host Server files using the File Manager? BTW, my cPanel shows a File Manager and also a Legacy File Manager. Sound right to You?
A little guidance thru this and I’ll be on my way.
Thanx Wes,
Tom
Thanx Wes,
But I’m apparently ‘locked-out’ of access to my site. I don’t know how to get past the error message and get into my site… how do I do that? I checked on my iPhone and it too show the error message.
As far as the location of the code I added. I just pasted your code into maybe the third or fourth from the top. Spacing looked ok to me. I’m no expert but it looked ok. The only change was to add some text to your text.
But now I’m mostly concerned about my inability to access my site…
Tom Dolan
Hi Wes,
I added the code you sent and edited it to: Leave a Comment, Ask a Question. When I selected update I got the following message:
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_FUNCTION in /home/tomj8796/public_html/wp-content/themes/legacy/functions.php on line 42
At the moment I can’t access the site to correct this. Can you advise how I can proceed?
Thanx,
Tom Dolan
Wait a Minute Please! About the above Post #2184, I just discovered that the above mentioned boxes in the Secure Contact Form are now White…the problem is I don’t know what I did to change anything, and I just hate when something changes for the good-or-bad and I don’t know why. Anyway,
for your interest I was adjusting the Header from float: left, to, float: center, just to see if it still increased in Height, but since I added the color, it hasn’t changed height. So I wrote it back to float: left. Then checking around to see if I destroyed anything else I saw that all the Red boxes had turned White??
I’m happy with the result as long as I didn’t infect the code with a site flu or something.
So unless there’s some emergency message that I need to know, please forget the above and Thanx for your help.
Ton Dolan
Hi,
Checking my site results this am, and I discovered that the above code-fix did give me the ability to choose a different Header Color which is great. Further checking and I discovered that the Header color was now in the ’email subscribe’ button, and the ‘previous shows’ select button, both in footer widgets. I managed to change the ’email button’ back to white, but not the ‘previous shows’ yet. I’ll keep searching.
The biggest surprise is the change in all the boxes of the ‘Fast Secure Contact Form’ which has been white for 3 years. Yikes. How can I disconnect the Header Color from these other boxes?
Thanx again,
Tom
my site if you care to check: tomjdolan.com
Hi Eric,
Opened Functions.php and pasted the code where it might belong, then I looked at the css and all entries under Header were #entries, so I looked further down to this:
/* Image Header – Full Width——————- */ and because the entries were .head entries, inserted the code here.
.head-wrap {background: #ff0000;}
This resulted in getting automatically a Brite Red Header, (that I didn’t choose), but with White Text (that I could select), and a full page Background of Dark Grey, but I could also change the Background to White. I can’t believe that I’ve got some Control over this at last. Yea!
Please advise if I put the code in the wrong place. In the meantime, I’ll look for a way to change the Header Background Color, which at the moment isn’t responding as I expect it to.
I don’t know if it’s Xmas yet where you are, but you’re making my day into something special…
Thanx,
Tom Dolan
Hello Eric,
Thank you so much for this guidance. Before I insert this code, I must state that this is the first time I’ll be touching .php files. As this is in the functions.php files, should I enter the code exactly as it appears in your message? I ask because when I examine .php code it looks different then css code.
I’ll look at the functions.php file now and see if I can locate the correct insertion point.
Thanx for sticking with this,
Tom Dolan
Good Morning Eric,
Merry Christmas on this bright and Cold day in Tokyo.
I did locate and apply your suggestion. I chose a Dark Grey, and when I checked my site, the entire site became dark grey, not just the Header. I am attempting to have a different color Header from a White Body. Again, I used the Appearance>Themes>Customize feature in Legacy and curiously, the Drop-down Menu lists under Colors: Header Text Color, and, Background Color. These appear in one box and so I thought they both referred to the Header.
Below that box in the Menu is: Background Image. Frankly, I don’t know how to use that, but I’ll learn if I need to.
Please, when you’re free, advise how to proceed…I know it’s the Holidays so I don’t want to seem ‘demanding’.
Thanx for your assistance Eric,
Tom Dolan
HI Eric,
Well that worked out nicely. I expected the text and logos under the Titles to also move but it ‘s interesting enough as it is.
Thanx so much for your assistance.
Tom
Hi Eric,
Thanx for responding to my 1st Post for assistance. I’m not sure what link you’d like me to send over. The Legacy Header has a custom feature that appears on a Drop down Menu. it asks for html#color for both text and background. When I input a color for text which I did today, it changed from black to the red now visable on the site. But, when I input a background color, nothing changed leaving the background white.
My site is at: tomjdolan.com
I hope that helps but if you need more info, please ask.
Thanx,
Tom
