Theapril, I did match the color on the Hello bar, but the shadow beneath it was unavoidable. It was built-in through no fault of my own. I’m glad you like it!

in reply to: Pulldown menu on home page disappears #11180

I have a slider going on homepage in the slider widget (not the wide one). I built a rather long pulldown menu. Then, when I mouse down that pulldown acroos the various menu choices, the menu disappears exactly when my mouse crosses over the pagination for the slider’s images. This bug was so bad, that I could not possibly select one of the lower menu choices.

So, I went into the settings for the slider and turned off the pagination display. Voila! That fixed the problem with the menu. However, if I really wanted the pagination, the problem is not fixed. This is a software bug that should be fixed, but I am not personally worrying about it, since I found this workaround. Here is my webpage http://answeristhefood.com/ where you can see the long menus, but since pagination has been turned off you can’t experience the problem.

Another workaround for others is to break up the long pulldown menus into short subsets, like have subs called A-L and M-Z. If you are not sure how to do this, in the menu edit section, click on links on the left and type # in place of the http:// and then type A-L (or whatever you want it to say) in the field below that. Then, Add to menu.

Wes, You were right. I had installed a plugin called, Genesis Simple Edits. It worked well, but unfortunately it included that Return to top of page fake link. I have looked for that in the code and can’t find it, so I will put that on back burner since I have other things I must attend to. With the current colors it is very hard for a reader to see anyway. When I get more experienced I may do your suggestion of adding the ID and relinking this code to it.

                  Greg,
I have not used it, but I did search for plugins with “slider.” I saw there an extremely highly rated Meta Slider. 5.0 stars and 165 reviews, which is phenomenal. I am considering using this for my photography website. Did you compare Royal Slider with this, by chance? If so, what was your opinion?

Secondly, I searched Youtube.com for Royalslider and it gave a lot of videos explaining how to use it. If I was you, I would check out several of those.

Wes, thanks for your help. Now “multiple portfolios” is working well. Below is a summary of the complete process for making a portfolio showing only one category, for any other newbies that have trouble.

                    1. Dashboard, Posts, Add New and type the obvious fields.
On the right in the Categories section, check on one or more categories or Add New Category.

                    2. Dashboard, Posts, Categories
Right click on category name and select “Open link in new window” and look for ID=[a number]. Remember that category number.

                    3. From Dashboard, Pages, Add New and type the obvious fields. Do not put a picture in the content area, or some weird caption… text will appear.
On the right in the Page Attributes section, set Template to Portfolio.
At the top, expand Screen Options and check the box “Custom Fields.”
In the Custom Fields section at the bottom, in the Name field type “query_args”.
In the Value field type “cat=[category number], e.g. cat=5. Cat= does not work (It can’t be CAPITALIZED.) Neither can it be a category name.

                    4. Add the new page to the appropriate menu.

                      @Wes, Thanks for your reply.

                      1. My name field is equal to query_args
                      2. My value field is equal to cat=1
When those are set the portfolio page with category set to either videos OR recipes & cooking returns ALL the pictures.
When I set the cat=2 or cat=3 or cat=4 I get nothing and at.

                      3. How does one know what cat number it is?

                      4. I did have a content picture in there. That returned the weird text “Caption code…” So, I deleted that picture.

So, please help me with the portfolio page and setting the category. I need to use this feature a LOT!

                      Thanks.

Thanks, Wes, but I already tried that. And, I have since done that as a stop gap measure. I wanted the company name and tagline to be only a margin width to the right of the logo and have it and the tagline left justified. I guess you are saying that is not possible. Thanks for your response though. I suppose I will have to go back to Photoshop and build the combination into a new single logo.

This portfolio page should only have one picture, but is getting all my pictures, like you can see here. http://www.pbase.com/vanwhite/image/154608305

I followed your tutorial here https://appfinite.com/tutorials/how-to-create-multiple-portfolios/

I had made a post and set category to Recipes & Cooking like this http://www.pbase.com/vanwhite/image/154608417

Your tutorial says to set Cat=1, but I don’t have any idea if there is a category number associated with Recipes & Cooking. If so, where would I find it?

My category page is here. Notice the one of interest, Recipes & Cooking http://www.pbase.com/vanwhite/image/154608302
