Hi kronos,
I had already found and read that article on wpsites.net, along with a few other articles. I was hoping that there was something I could simply change, or switch around, in the functions file.
I don’t want to put the post meta below the blog post. Just the Date and Byline placed below the title of the article.
Terri
You can cancel this post; I was able to fix the problem.

Glad I checked here BEFORE doing that upgrade! I saw this in my dashboard and it seemed suspect to me, especially going from 1.1.3 to 1.4. Plus, I’m positive Wes would have sent out a notice if he had upgraded this theme.
But… will my clients know not to hit that Upgrade button?? I highly doubt it. So. What happens if they do the upgrade?

There is a new version of Ambition Theme available. View version 1.4 details or update now.
Hi Wes,
I FINALLY have a chance to get back to the iPad issue. The changes you made to the demo did not resolve the problem. 馃檨
Terri
Hi Wes,
I’ve tried searching across all of the forums for background images and background images on iPad…couldn’t find it. Then again, it could be in a post with a vague subject line and private communications. 馃檨
Sorry to hear about your iPad.

Hi Wes, and a belated Happy New Year!
Just a note to let you know that I had to download a fresh copy of the Ambition theme. While I was able to remove the Blog section by using Customizer, that only removed a portion of it. I still had to edit the new front-page.php file (instead of the previous home.php) and use the code you provided above to remove the Blog Sidebar from the home page.
Terri
No more blog on home page; Perfect!!
So, is this why I don’t (currently) have the option to turn the blog on/off in the customizer?
Terri
I suspected as much. I’m sure you can imagine me looking at your revised code and thinking; Where the heck is the EPIC line in this Ambition theme???
Oh wait… now your code is referring to the Aspire theme! Where did I get the Epic code from???
Thanks, Wes… though I’m a bit confused by these instructions. I’m not seeing any of this in Ambition. What would I remove and replace in the Ambition theme?
Terri
Since I rarely, if ever, use the Customizer that’s really a non-issue for me. And yes; I always run the latest version of WP and plugins.
So. How can I manually remove the blog section from the home page? Aside from not wanting the blog on the home page, it’s very awkward to navigate. If you click on “Next” to read the next post you’re taken to the top of the home page and then have to scroll all the way back down to get to the next post….and so on.
Terri
I manually insert Dissallow File Edit TRUE in wp-config in all of my WP installs in case an unauthorized user gets into the dashboard so that they won’t be able to edit files.
I tried changing to to FALSE to see if that Front Page Content Settings would magically appear, but it did not.
Hi Wes,
I wish I could see it there. That option is not listed in my settings. Another thing about that customizer is that I cannot use it to change background colors, and changing button/link colors only changes some of the button colors.
Here’s my list of options:
Site Identity
Responsive Header
Front Page Background Images
Colors
Header Image
Menus
Widgets
Static Front Page
Site Layout
Breadcrumbs
Comments and Trackbacks
Content Archives

Cancel that question regarding downsizing of the logo. I commented out:
/*.header-image .light .site-title > a {
height: 56px;
}*/
Thank you, Wes,
I had to launch the site over the weekend. I’m going to hold off a bit making any additional changes until after someone else mentions the spacing on their own smartphones/tablets.
I’m currently waiting for their new logo. Speaking of which, how do I stop the logo from downsizing once you start scrolling down the page?
Terri
Thank you for the follow-up, Wes,
I’m so sorry for not getting back to you sooner. Between WooCommerce issues on another site (I HATE All Things Woo!!), a Google hack warning on yet another site, and 2 new sites to get launched this week, I’ve barely had time to eat/sleep. I’ve not had a chance to remove that line of code, and my client has not replied to any of my emails the past couple of weeks.
Will get back to this ASAP.
Terri
P.S.(And completely off topic) Can you recommend someone well versed in WooCommerce?
I did, yes. It now reads “Carols and Rady…” It’s in Front Page 2.
The padding in that solid section is fine. It’s the background image in Front Page 1 that becomes too long when viewing on iPhone, creating a large gap below the slider and above the headline in front page 2.
I was testing out the h2 in that area to see if that would make it smaller than the h1 when the title was placed where it’s supposed to be in that widget.
Reducing it down to 40 makes it look much better on my iPhone. I’m curious as to why it was 60px. I’ve noticed a lot of responsive themes use extremely large font sizes.
Any idea how to shorten up that HUGE gap between the “Dates To Be Announced” and the “Healing & Hope…” sections when viewing on iPhone.
Just about every part of the home page, but mainly in 2 places. Is there a way I can send you a screenshot? If not, here are the 2 main sections that need adjusting on iPhone (at least on iPhone 6).
In the first section, directly below the slider, that space gets stretched way out so that you end up with a LOT of space/background image showing up below the “Dates: To be Announced” and “healing….”
In the section with “Carols by Candlelight Needs Donors…..” the title is too large. It looks like an 80pt font size. The content below that also looks doubled in size. Same for the font size in the “A Truly Unique Venue” section.
This isn’t the only responsive theme where I’ve run into fonts doubling in size when viewed on a smart phone. I’ve not been able to figure out how to keep the font sizes from doubling when viewed on smartphones.
Terri
Perfect! Thank you!
I was also able to change the size and color of the dashicon so that I could have a white one on the front page and red on the inner pages. 馃檪
Thank you, Eric. As it turned out, going with the manually entered content worked fine for this site.
I was wondering whether or not those were featured posts/pages, of if you just added a line of text below a manually inserted image. I was hoping they were featured pages/post, but that’s okay that they’re not.
Thank you, Wes!
Terri
Thank you, Wes!
Of course I have SquareOne! I think I may have purchased that one twice. I tend to purchase your themes for every site I use them on, as opposed to buying the theme once and putting it on more than one domain name.
I was about to go look at SquareOne to see if there was anything there that would clue me in has to how you have those 3 columns set up in the white space below the first image (Learn to attract new customers), with the buttons. Are you simply using a 3 column layout in a text widget? And what about those images?
I’m just about finished with this project already. All I need to do is that one section with the 3 columns. That’s one of the many things I love about your themes; I can handle those “I needed this new site to go live yesterday!” clients. The first time I used SquareOne, that entire project, from initial conversation to site launch, was completed in under 10 hours. I wish ALL of my projects were as easy!
Terri
Hi Wes,
I added the line of code. If it’s still getting cropped off on your iPhone 5S I’ll see if I can get permission to give you access. Making the logo image less than the stated size and adding the above mentioned CSS for iPhone 5 and 5S worked on another site. However, I’m thinking there has to be an easier way, and one that allows for the recommended logo size.
Terri
Hi Wes,
I think the problem may be with the recommended image size for the logo.

I’m still trying every which way to stop the logo image from getting cut off. My most recent attempt:
1. Changed logo size in functions.php to 320 x 133,
2. Uploaded new logo size using WordPress dashboard header image change, and
3.Added the following to CSS….
/* ———– iPhone 5 and 5S ———– */
/* Portrait and Landscape */
@media only screen
and (min-device-width: 320px)
and (max-device-width: 568px)
and (-webkit-min-device-pixel-ratio: 2) {
}
/* Portrait */
@media only screen
and (min-device-width: 320px)
and (max-device-width: 568px)
and (-webkit-min-device-pixel-ratio: 2)
and (orientation: portrait) {
}
/* Landscape */
@media only screen
and (min-device-width: 320px)
and (max-device-width: 568px)
and (-webkit-min-device-pixel-ratio: 2)
and (orientation: landscape) {
}
I don’t have an iPhone 5 so can only go by what my client is seeing on her iPhone and she says it’s still getting cut off. I told her to clear cache and browser, but she’s still seeing a cut off image.
Terri
I’m not using either one of those plugins, but the reload worked this time around. Didn’t work during previous attempts.
Terri
Cancel this post. I went ahead and purchased the plugin (v5.3.2) and was able to install it.
Terri
Thank you for getting Wes to remove the link. 馃檪
Hi Eric,
Yes; the image was (is) inside the images folder, however, the link to the image was not in the stylesheet (background-image: url(images/slide-shadow.png). Once I added the link to the image I was then able to see the shadow even with 1 image in the slider. 馃檪
Terri
Update: I regenerated the featured images in Media Library. That solved the problem without having to reupload the images.
Thanks, Eric! Hopefully, I will never need to do this again. 馃檪
By the way; Can you use your admin powers to remove the link from my previous post? I would greatly appreciate it. I don’t see a way for me to take care of that myself.
